---- RILEY ----
home - edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros"Are you sure you don't want me to drive?" Mason asked for the millionth time. His hand was resting on its normal spot on my leg, and his thumb was gently rubbing circles on my inner thigh.
I had let him drive earlier when we left the hotel so I could keep sleeping, but I was definitely not going to let him drive the final stretch into Coral Bay. It was far too exciting.
"Mase, I'm fine." I reassured him. "We're thirty minutes away."
It was a little after two in the morning now, and even though I was exhausted from the two-day drive, I could barely contain my joy.
Coming home to Coral Bay and driving through the marshes and eventually onto the bridge was a feeling that felt like no other. It meant that I was finally home and going to be surrounded by the people I love most.
Bringing Mason home to Coral Bay was exciting, too, albeit a little nerve-racking.
Although I wasn't super close to my brothers or my parents, my grandparents meant everything to me, and I desperately wanted them to like Mason.
I'm sure they will like him because what's there not to like? But the thought of their disapproval made tiny little butterflies take off in my stomach.
"Are you nervous?" I anxiously asked Mason.
"Nervous?"
"Yeah. Like meeting my family and spending Christmas in a totally new place that you have never been to in your entire life... is that not at least a little bit terrifying?" I could feel my heart rate increase as I rattled off my worries to Mason.
"Babe, I'm nervous as fuck." Mase laughed beside me. "I know you aren't used to bringing guys around since you dated fuckface for so long, but I haven't met a girl's parents in years."
"It's not even just my parents. It's my brothers and my grandparents and God only knows if any other mysterious family members will show u-"
Mason threw his head back onto the headrest as he laughed even harder. "Riles, you really are not helping me right now."
With my own smile, I looked over at Mason and let out my own laugh.
Here I was with a guy I met five months ago, 1,500 miles away from our college town and less than thirty minutes away from introducing him to my family.
If someone had even attempted to tell August Riley how the next couple of months would go for her, I think she would have laughed in their face and then maybe had a heart attack.
When I first met Mason, I was dating the guy I thought I was going to marry. No lie.
Liam was my high school sweetheart and my whole world at the time. He was someone I would have gone to the ends of the earth to make happy, and I think everyone in my life but myself could see that he would never have done the same thing.
