Saturday Evening
December 19th"Mr. Jordan?" Tiana poked his cheek. She was next to him on the couch, laying against his chest while they watched TV.
The five of them were over at Simone's house, and her, Jr., and Rylan were in the kitchen making hot cocoa and getting snacks while Jordan and Tiana stayed in the living room on the couch.
"Yes Tiana?" He took his eyes away from the Christmas movie and looked down at her.
"What are you getting me for Christmas?"
"It's a surprise. And you constantly asking me isn't gonna change the fact that I'm not telling you."
"Can I just get a hint?"
"But then you'd guess it , so would it still be a surprise if I told you?"
"I hope it's that new lego set I told you about."
"I just bought you a lego set a few weeks ago after Thanksgiving," he teased her. He'd already bought her Christmas gift, and that's exactly what it was.
"Yeah, but I want Elsa's Palace from Frozen."
"You're very pushy for someone who can barely read and write the words 'Elsa's Palace from Frozen' yuh know. Plus, I thought you wanted that one freakishly realistic doll for Christmas?"
"That's what I told Aunt Simone. I tell everyone different things to make sure I get everything I want."
"Ohh?" Jordan couldn't help but laugh, because honestly? That's really smart for a very young child. "That's how that works?"
"Mmhm," Tiana nodded her head in agreement. "So you're gonna get me thé lego set, and I know what you can get for aunt Simone too."
"And what's that Tiana?"
"A ring," she whispered.
"Why would I buy Simone a ring?"
"So you can marry her. Duhh," she said very matter of factly, like it was obvious.
"You sure you only three years old?" He raised his eyebrows at her.
Jordan hasn't been around kids a whole lot in his life, but he was sure three year olds aren't usually this well spoken and articulated.
"My birthday is coming up on January 2nd. I'm going to be four," she held up the correct number of fingers to match her soon to be age. "And mommy and daddy are planning me a big party too. All my friends from my class are coming. There's gonna be a cake, and candy, and I'm gonna—"
"Is Tiana in here talking your ear off?" Simone walked up to them with two mugs. One bigger one for Jordan, and a much smaller one for Tiana.
"Not really," he thanked her for the hot cocoa after accepting it from her outstretched hand. "It's more of a conversation. She telling me about her birthday party."
