"What the fuck is that?" One of Jordan's coworkers sat down across from him in the break room.

"The fuck it look like? It's a book, dumbass,"Jordan annoyingly responded. He was supposed to be eating during his break, but he's been using all of his free time trying to finish reading the book Simone recommended him so he'd have an excuse to call and talk to her/see her again. "Why you even in here bothering me Samar?"

"Cause Brian wants you in his office. Sent me in here to come get you."

"I ain't do nothing?" Jordan scrunched his face up, confused as to why his boss wanted to see him in his office.

"Don't ask me. I'm just the messenger," Samar held his hands up.

"My break ain't up yet. I just got in here."

"You tell him that," Samar tapped on the table twice before getting up.

"Bruh," he groaned, but still got up from the table too.

"Yeah boss?" Jordan knocked on Brian's door. "Samar said you wanted to see me?"

"Yeah, come in. Sit."

"Can I ask why I'm in here?"

"Your parole officer just gave me a call."

"Why?" Jordan awkwardly sat down in the chair across from Brian's desk.

"Said he's gonna show up randomly one day this week to make sure you're where you're supposed to be so he called to get your schedule."

"Okay, that ain't nothing new."

"He's most likely gonna test you too."

"I'm not on nothing," he said very defensively.

"Didn't say you were. Just thought I'd give you a little heads up. I've seen a lot of my best men go down because of a lil drug test, and I don't wanna see that happen to you."

"Thanks..." Jordan said very reluctantly. "Can I go now?" He was upset that he really had to cut into his already short break for that.

"Sure," Brian nodded his head, pulling himself closer to his desk.

"What'd Brian want?" Samar asked when Jordan made his way back to the distribution floor.

"What does he ever want?" Jordan picked up the keys to one of the forklifts from the key box and a tablet with a list of all of the palets he was supposed to move with their designated locations.

"What you doing after work today?" Samar walked with him over to where the forklifts were all parked in a very neat row.

"Going home. Why?"
