"Are you sure you checked upstairs?" Carter asked the policeman.
"I can guarantee you that there is no one up there, it was probably her imagination" The man replied, glancing at the little girl sitting on the couch.
"Alright thank you, I will see you out" Carter replied, shaking the policeman hand.
When he came inside, he sat on the couch, craddling millie into his arm, while running his hand through her hair to soothe her.
"See, I told you that there was no one upstairs millie"
"But dad, i swear i saw him...he was scary" Millied sniffled
Carter sigh and decided to take millie to dinner out to calm her down. They returned home late with millie sleeping in his arm. He put her to bed and looked around her room. It's been a month since Millie started complaining about seeing a man in her room, she said that he would stand over her with a creepy look in his eyes but he would always hide when she called for help.
Carter was scared at first but after inspecting the house several time, he found no clue of any hidden room. He believed it was just Millie's Imagination and she was just messing with him, but he still decided to hire a babysitter for her during his works hours, and tomorrow she would start.
Millie screamed again around 3 am, awoking Carter. She claimed to have saw the man again but this time he was closer to her. Carter took millie to his own room which was next door to hers and calmed her down and went back to sleep.
In the morning, he was again insisted by millie to inspect the house, since she was sure that the man existed and that he was hiding. He again did a search to calm her and soon after, the babysitter came. She was tall, skinny and her dirty blonde hair was tied in a ponytail, giving her a serious look, she was carrying a tote bag which had some board game poking out. She was introduced to millie and had a brief interview with Carter. She seemed nice, so Carter left them alone and went to work.
At the house, things seemed to be going really well. The babysitter introduced herself as Sabrina and Millie took a liking to her. Millie told her a lot of things including the man which Sabrina thought was just Millie's imagination but she couldn't seem to forget about it. Truth be told she believed the child a little bit. When Carter came back, she took the initiative to leave but after mentioning the man to him. Carter told her that he checked everywhere and couldn't find anything making her relieved.
She came every morning in a span of 1 month. She grew closer to Millie and also to Carter. She would still hear about the creepy man from Millie but she had learned to brush it off. She was still very skeptical but since she knew that Carter had called several person to check the house, she didn't dwell on it. But she knew that Millie encounter with the "man" was becoming worse and worse day by day. She realised that each time the man would be a step closer to Millie and Millie was more paranoid since she said he would talk about taking her away.
One morning, when Sabrina came, she was told by Carter that Millie was sleeping. She decided to watch the television while waiting for Millie to wake up and come downstairs. After an hour, she heard Millie sobbing softly, filled with panic she rushed upstairs to find the little girl with red marks on her face. She took her downstairs and called Carter several time until he picked up.
"Sorry to bother you but there are some red marks in Millie"
"Red marks?"
