Polaris awoke from the faint sound of birds chirping, and a squirrel chewing a nut a little too loudly. He softly growled as he lifted his head, causing the squirrel to sprint away. Polaris stretched and yawned, turning back to the still sleeping snakes. After carefully making his way to Henry and Elly, he gently pressed his nose against the boa's paw. She awoke, and sleepily looked up at the husky.
"Polarrs? What're youh *yawn*... doin' awake? Is too early..." Elly slurred a bit, as she was still sort of asleep. "I know, but we need to leave, Elly. It's..." Polaris looked at the atill sleeping redbelly with pity, and that put Elly on edge. "... it's... about a nightmare that Raven had..."
Polaris then explained Raven's nightmare to Elly, whose eyes were wide with fear and concern. She held Raven close to her as Polaris finished explaining, pinning his ears back. "Even if it might not be real, I am NOT risking you guys' lives by waiting. We have to leave now."
Elly agreed, waking up the rest of the snakes and then she told them what was happening. She put CC, James, Jason, and Raven in her backpack and put it on. "We're ready, Snowoof" Polaris smiled at the nickname Henry gave him, and he began to sniff the air and ground. He then started to run in a direction, stopping and looking back at the lamias, who sprinted to catch up to him. He then continued to run when they caught up, leading them somewhere.
The gang had already left the den's perimeter by the time the dogs and hunter arrived, just like Raven's nightmare portrayed. As they heard a frustrated yell, Lunar turned to Polaris. "I actually cannot believe that little Raven's nightmare was true!!" Bitzen nodded and he looked back, then he turned back to the front, "Yeah! We owe you one, Polar!"
Once they got a good distance away from the den, Polaris sniffed out a safe path for the gang to go through, and he was the one to guide them. It's not too long before they encounter a port, and in the water next to it was a huge cargo ship, and they immediately hide among large boxes at the inner part of the port. "What do we do? The dogs will find us any time, but we cannot risk being seen by humans!" Roxan whispered out, which Polaris heard and was looking for something to hide in. He noticed an opening in the cargo area, and he spoke to the group.
"Alright guys, you won't like this idea but... we're gonna have to be quick and get on the cargo ship. We can hide among the boxes and stuff in there" Henry looked at the husky as if he had suddenly led them into a trap, but he knew that it was their only way of getting away from the hunters.
Polaris walked up to the humans to get their attention as a way of distracting them while the lamias got on the ship, earning pats and compliments from the humans. He faked a happy bark and expression, making the people smile at him and continue to compliment the young husky.
"Awwww what a good boy!"
"Not sure if he belongs to someone, but hopefully not so I can keep him!"
"Mommy I wanna see the doggie!"
"Now now, Erik. We have to get on board, and you wouldn't want to make your ipad wait"
"Okay!"
"Dang I wish I was rich enough to buy a husky"
From the corner of his eye, Polaris saw that Henry's spiny tail disappear into the ship. Polaris grabbed a chunk of cooked meat that a butcher offered to him, and he trotted off.
"Safe travels, young pup..."
As the man saw Polaris disappear among the crowd of people, he smiled to himself and began to walk inside the ship, whispering to himself.
"To you and your scaled friends.."
Polaris sneaked inside the ship, getting in just in time before the door closed, and a loud horn was heard.
"ALL ABOARD!!"
Polaris put the meat down in front of him, and Henry tilted his head. The husky smiled, "A butcher was kind enough to give me this, so I thought..." he nudged the meat closer to the lamias, which the smaller ones approached the chunk. Polaris laid down across from them, "...why not share with my new family? It might noy be much for all of us, but... it's something"
Jason grinned widely, taking a bite of of the piece. He hummed in satisfaction from the flavor, wagging his scaled tail a bit. The ship shook a bit, which told the gang that they were already moving.
A couple of minutes later, Jason was curled against Bitzen. CC was curled against him, having James curled against her, and finally having Raven curled against him.
Bitzen looked at the 4 smaller lamias laid against him, all of them sleeping and comfy. He softly smiled, eventually laying his head down on his paws and closing his eyes.
Roxan slithered over to the window behind the smaller snakes and looked out, her eyes widening in awe as she saw the deep blue ocean that expanded for miles. She flicked her tongue out, sort of in a trance from the ocean waves. "Enjoying the view, Rox?" Henry chuckled, and Roxan did nothing but nod. Polaris yawned and laid next to a bundle of suitcases, resting his head on a suitcase.
Elly curled next to Henry, widely opening her mouth to yawn. "We better get comfy, cuz this might be a long trip. Wherever we go, we can just hope that it's safe." Lunar agreed as she slithered over to the husky, curling up next to him. Polaris gave her a gentle smile, and she returned it before laying her body down on the floor and putting her head on her paws. Polaris started to close his eyes to rest, mainly due to him not being able to sleep from the anxiety of the other dogs catching up.
Lunar looked at him for a few minutes, seeing how peaceful he had looked. They only met quite a while ago, and he had done nothing to harm them. Lunar looked down and to the side, "maybe I should give him a chance... he was pretty beat up, and he never harmed us...". Lunar moved her tail tip closer to Polaris, and carefully stroked his back. He wagged his tail and smiled at the contact, which made Lunar smile ever so slightly. Polaris may have been a hunting dog, but he was proved to be a good friend, and guard.
Lunar then stopped rubbing Polaris's back and curled her tail again, closing her eyes to rest as the ship moved. Elly laid her head down on Henry's arms, fast asleep. The spiny viper rested his head on Elly's back and went to sleep, leaving Roxan as the only one awake.
Speaking of which, Roxan got a bit startled when a dolphin jumped out of the water. Once she realized the rest were asleep, she decided to also sleep. Roxan curled next to Bitzen and closed her eyes, thinking of where they might end up at.
Although they might possibly end up in a semi-human free area, the chances of finding friendly creatures is quite low. They will just have to wait and see the place with their own eyes.
