HOME AWAY FROM HOME

"You were right." I say.

The Avengers have just come back from their big mission.

Now that I've calmed down from the initial shock of the news about the portals, I'm ready to talk to the team about it.

"I think I can control the portals, but it's a work in progress. I'm still trying to figure it out."

"That's alright. But until we can figure out how the portals work, or how you can control them, let's try not to use them."

"Do you think you can go back to your world?"

"Maybe? But I don't know if can do it yet. I would have to test it out first."

"Right. We wouldn't want you to get lost who knows where."

"That settles the portals, but what about your world? You've been here a while, how does that work?"

"I don't know. I mean so far, everything about the multiverse is theoretical."

"Kid has a point. We shouldn't take any more risks until we understand this better."

"What about school Tony?" Bruce asks.

"Right. I keep forgetting that you're not from here." He says, scratching his temple.

"Well, we need to figure something out. Any ideas?"

The team shakes their heads.

"Let's sleep on it and see what we can come up with then."

✧・゚: *✧・゚:*

In the months that follow, I spend most of my time down at the labs with Tony and Bruce. While they work on their projects, I do some research on the side.

Towards the front of the main lab we use, we have a board full of questions and theories, which we are currently testing out.

There is a comparison between worlds, things that are the same, and things that are different. We conduct small experiments like that.

So far, it seems like both worlds are very similar for the most part.

"How's everything going?" Steve asks.

"Good."

"Did you find anything new?"

"Nope. But we do have a few theories up our sleeve." Tony says.

Steve raises both brows at that.

"Have you heard of Schrödingers cat?"

"No?"

"Right. I didn't think so. Schrödingers cat is a thought experiment used in quantum mechanics to illustrate a paradox of quantum superposition. Hypothetically speaking, the cat is both alive and dead at the same time while being in the box—"

"But what does that have to do with the portals?" Steve interrupts.

"What Tony is getting at is that looking at matter changes how we see it." I explain. "Thor explained that during the convergence, the nine realms align. By doing so, the dimensional boundaries between each realm become weak, resulting in various physical and hyper dimensional anomalies. This includes a potential tear in the fabric of reality."

"I'm not sure I'm following."

"It means that miss fangirl here found a portal or rift during the convergence and because she noticed and paid attention to it she was able to see it and cross it to come here."

He still looks confused.

"Remember when I first arrived at the tower and told you about the portal?"

He nods.

"But you couldn't see it. However, when I told you where the portal was, you began to notice it as well. We believe that the rift remains open because I am able to see it."

"I see. That makes sense?"

"Don't worry about it Cap." Tony says, patting his shoulder. "It's just a theory, we're just messing around and coming up with ideas."

"Speaking of. Hey kiddo, come talk to us for a sec?" Tony says.

"Sure. What's up?"

"We were thinking, since you might be staying here for a while, how would you feel about finishing a proper senior year at Midtown High?"

"Midtown high? As in, the school that—" I stop myself before finishing.

"That's the one."

"Really?"

"It's a good school."

"Yeah, I've heard it's one of the best."

"So?"

"I mean, that would be amazing!"

"Yeah?"

"That would be so cool!"

"Then it's decided." Tony says.

"Gah! Thank you! You just made my day."

I can't believe I'm going to Midtown High!

With some practice and guidance from Loki, I am now able to locate, open and close portals.

As it turns out, inter-dimensional travel can be quite tricky and it is very easy to get lost, which is why it's better to get some training before attempting to go back to my world.

Loki knows a lot about them, and whenever he has a chance, he gives me new details via hologram.

All in all, with the exception of some glitching from the portals on occasion, everything seems to be going well, but the portals are tricky and I always end up having to take a nap right after.

Time is flies by and by the time I know it, summer has passed.

Soon I will be starting my last year at Midtown High. Which I'm excited for and nervous about. But it should be fine.

Does graduating from an alternate universe count for your resume though? I guess we'll find out.

A bit of a filler chapter but I hope that it was able to explain some things. Don't worry about understanding the observers paradox of Schrödinger's cat. It's just something that I thought of while writing the story.

My spidey senses say another very cool character will appear soon. Care to guess who it is?
