CHOICES

I jump when a figure appears in the middle of the room.

"Oh Loki, you scared me."

"Quite jumpy, aren't we?" He says, raising a brow.

"It's been an eventful few weeks."

"I heard."

"So, what brings you here?"

"I came here to move on to the next step. You're ready."

"You mean?"

"Yes. It's time you learn to make the multidimensional cross."

"Are you sure?"

"Positive. I have trained you enough."

"Alright then. I guess we can give it a try."

Nodding, Loki motions me over to where he is standing.

"Now, you have to focus. In order to find your home, you have to picture it exactly as it is."

"Give it a try."

Taking a deep breath, I close my eyes and open a portal, stopping when it reaches a good size.

Then, following his instruction, I try to picture my home on the other side.

"Concentrate." He says, the image flickering.

"You've already done it once before by accident, you can do it again."

I got this. I tell myself, remembering my home world.

The light around the portal intensifies and the image becomes clearer.

"You did it." Loki says, clearly impressed.

"I did?"

He nods.

"Of course you did, I'm the one that trained you."

I playfully roll my eyes.

"If you cross that portal now, you can go home."

Home.

The word echoes in my head.

But then I remember.

"But what about them?"

"What about them?" Loki repeats with a shrug. "You do not belong in this world. They will move on and continue with their lives. You do not have to worry about them, I'm sure that they can take care of themselves."

"I can't leave them. Not when I can help."

"Trust me. Nothing will change."

"I can try."

A distant voice makes us turn in that direction.

"It's your choice." He says, in a softer tone this time.

"I'll stay."

"Have it your way."

With that he disappears.

"Ness?"

"Coming!"

Shrugging my shoulders, I rush to the common room where the team has gathered.

"What did I miss?"

"Nothing yet. The movie is just about to start."

"We saved you a spot." Wanda says, patting the spot next to her.

With a smile, I sit in between Pietro and her, letting myself relax for the moment.

Everyone is here.

That's the way it should always be.

This is what I want to remember.

I know nothing lasts forever, but that doesn't mean that we can't try to buy more time.
