The Fortress
... and as the Slayer destroyed the last gore nest on earth, the war turned and the remaining humans began to battle against Hell's forces again.
She licked on a chip for the hundredth time as SODIA completed what she called "the first chapter". The holographic depiction of death and agony on the planet's surface stuttered and vanished. Io sat on the floor in the gate room, a blanket around her as she was feeling cold at any time now. She started to feel the lack of energy in her body, her hunger raging, urges rising to feast on anything she could grab.
"Okay... that's... fucked up... " her eyes stared into the void in front of her as she finally put the chip in her mouth, not chewing, letting it soften to a mush. After a pause she rubbed her face, reminding herself that anyone she knew had already been dead. Her jaw tightened while trying to forget the hours she had spent listening to helpless messages reaching out for anyone to come to save them and screams of pain when the demons had been faster.
The events of the war on Earth can be disturbing to the human mind. I offer my services for a consultation regarding your emotional health if needed. The next chapter will be less distressing in regards to gruesome acts against human beings, though be warned. You might find yourself questioning your existence when hearing about the further events the Slayer was part of.
"Question my existence...? What in the world should come after THAT?! Angels and a holy flame-swords like in 'Lucifer'?", she spat out, the whole situation and the constant fear sitting in the back of her mind raising anger.
Well, indeed.
The disbelief she portrayed was remarkable, as the last bits of reality was thrown out the window.
"Hah... Hm... hmmm... mhm..."
She shrugged her shoulders as if somebody had just explained something absolute obvious. She stood up and started walking aimlessly around the room. Shrugging, nodding, mumbling.
She screamed from the deepest of her lungs.
"FUUUCK! FUCK! FUCKFUCKFUCK! AHHHH! THIS IS MADNESS! WHY AM I HERE?! WHYYYY?!"
Io. Please remain calm. You need to-
"SHUT THE FUCK UUUUP!"
She was panting heavily, her muscles tense and ready to break something, her hands clenched into fists. She paused as SODIA had actually stopped speaking. Her hands started shaking and she ran to the Slayer's quarter, grabbed her phone and a blanket, and crawled under the desk. The battery was only 24% left, though she hadn't used it a lot and shut off quickly.
She put on a video, the blanket over her head as she huddled in the corner. Tiredly she sobbed and she repeated the scene over and over. The voices stung in her chest.
How should she do this by herself? It was the fucking future, a space castle, and then even god-damn demons and angles?? She felt so small and weak, a child lost in a mall for the first time.
How should she find strength for all of this? How did he, the Slayer, do it? How did he become so strong? All she wished was for her dad to be there with her. Even just one minute speaking to him. He always knew what to do. But he was dead. Everybody was dead.
She had cowered down, pressing the phone to her forehead as the video suddenly went black. How long had she been lying there? Had she fallen asleep again? She whimpered and her body ached from the hard floor.
"I'm s-s-sorry... sor-ry...y..."
The sobs made her cough as she choked on her own saliva.
It took her a good minute or so to calm her breath again, her chest still rattling from slime and irritation. She felt sick all of a sudden, her stomach twisted and her head hammered. In her sight lights appeared and nothing was in focus anymore.
A migraine? Now?
She hadn't drunk enough for days, the water was good but had a weird aftertaste. And she had eaten a lot of salty stuff too. She missed real food already. A good homemade meal. She crawled out and over to her bag, hoping her self-made emergency-school-apothecary would help her.
A pill and a forced half bootle of water later she could feel the world spin yet. She couldn't go on like this. Her heart was racing while her body felt numb and weak. She nearly lost grip of the bottle as she put it down. The bright gloom of the sun and earth hurt her brain and she crept back under the desk, managing to hang a sheet to darken the hideout further and huddling herself in a bunch of blankets.
