The Fortress
In the dark of her sleep voices of her past mixed with voices of the present. Screams and laughter alike surrounded her endlessly. Blurred light sometimes shined through what she assumed was the void of death itself.
IO! Wake up! You need to get up! NOW! Io?! IO! You need to eat! Io your vitals are weakening if you don't get u-
Her consciousness was swallowed again, but a bright pain rose from her mid. She groaned and slung her arms around her stomach, falling to her side. Cold sweat made her shiver.
hungry
She felt the window in her back, the light of the neverending sunshine sirred in her head. The floor beneath her felt like a ship on the high seas.
Io, please! I've been trying for hours! Io, stay awake!
Her dark-circled eyes wandered over the room, fixating on their target.
food
It took her minutes to crawl and drag herself to the cupboard that held the rations, the paper notes under her hands and feet crumpled. She grabbed a protein bar and gobbled it down, crumbs falling everywhere. Her mouth was dry and the last bite wouldn't get swallowed so she chugged half bottle of water with it. The world was fading in and out as she huddled on the floor groaning, her nails digging into her itching skin and scalp.
hungry
Io, are you listening?
Her arms reached out and she grabbed a bag of chips and the leftover chocolate bar.
Io, no! Stop! You can't eat that!
With glassy eyes, she glared at the food in her hands. SODIAs voice was only a dull hum in the background for her.
NO...!
hungry
She tore the packaging open and stuffed whole chunks into her mouth, more and more, washing it down with water and a can of soda.
hungry
She couldn't stop. It tasted too good and her stomach was hurting too much not to listen to it. Not even done with the sinful meal she jumped up. It all came up again and vanished in the toilet as she felt nothing but pain and regret. Her heart raced and she couldn't breathe right, her body burning and freezing at the same time and cold sweat running down her face, as she passed out on the bathroom floor.

A pale, gleaming shadow stepped over the papers that were spread out all over the floor near the window. The figure elegantly bowed down and picked up a paper with a symbol on it, before putting it back, taking a look at her, and vanishing as it had appeared.
A frantic breath filled her lungs to the maximum as she ripped her eyes open. She was lying near the doorway of the bathroom, the place where the shadow had stood was a couple of steps in front of her. She was still tired and weak, but energy circulated in her from head to toe. Her heartbeat drummed in her ears and throat, she could even feel the buzz of her bloodstream in her teeth. She washed away the sour taste in her mouth and stumbled back into the bedroom. The paper she had seen in the shadow's hand still lay there. It was the symbol she had scribbled all over a yellowed page. It was his symbol. And she wondered what it meant yet.
