"Absolutely not!" Clark told me without hesitation.
I just told my friends during lunch that I would be going to Miles's house after school to work on our English literature project. What's so wrong about that?
"It's just a project!" I protested.
"We need to focus on the mission." Clark said firmly.
"I have been focusing on the mission," I said through my gritted teeth.
"No, you haven't!" He snapped, unwrapping his chicken roll.
I rolled my eyes. "Yes, I have. I even went on that spying task yesterday." I said annoyed.
"Well, what do you even know about this Miles kid?" He asked me.
"This is pointless." I said ignoring his question.
"Good. I guess we've come to the agreement that you're not going then."
"No. What I meant is that our conversation about this is pointless because no matter what, I'm going!" I looked at my other friends and they all looked away when I caught eye contact with them. What's up with that? Are they seriously all on Clark's side?
"April ..." Rachel started, but her voice trailed away.
"Yes?" I asked, urging her to continue.
"Maybe you really shouldn't go." Rachel said in a really tiny voice. Is she really agreeing with Clark right now?
"What do you mean by that?" I asked confusedly. I thought Rachel would've been on my side.
"You barely know Miles. You don't know what could happen at his house."
"Clark and Rachel both got a point." Emma said firmly, butting into the conversation. "First of all, why did he suddenly invite you to his house? You guys barely know each other and in the meeting he's here like your old pal, asking you for movie night? Think about it!"
I scratched my head. "Look, I know you all have got a point. But if we're suspecting him, this could be a great chance to know more about him."
Emma blinked. "Fine, right now you have got a point and I think that…..shut up Clark! I get what you're saying!"
Clark placed his index finger on his lips like a good boy. He had just opened his mouth to argue again with me when Emma scolded him.
"I'll be back with my lunch tray. Rachel, make sure they don't kill each other while I'm gone." She got up with a dirty snapping look at me and Clark who still had his finger on his lips, before walking away.
I glanced at Clark and then at Rachel, raising my eyebrows. Rachel gave me a sheepish grin but Clark sat still like a stone. I began to play with my yogurt when suddenly the vacant chair of Emma was pulled back and then a huge Logan plopped down beside me.
"Hey guys, what's up?" He asked, placing his backpack on the ground. He glanced at all of us when his eyes fell on Clark. "What's got into you?"
Clark shrugged his shoulders, not taking his finger off his lips.
"Hey, dick head. What's wrong with you?" Logan pinched his arms yet still he didn't take his finger away.
"Emma asked him to be silent." Rachel said.
Logan's eyes widened at her. "Mommy Emma again ?"
I laughed out, not being able to hold on. "Yeah, sort of."
