October 8th, 1975.

Natalie stood at their usual spot, waiting for Remus to show up for rounds.

A minute later, his form came rushing down the hallway, robes askew and hair messed up. She smiled to herself.

"I'm sorry I'm late, Nat. I got stuck pran - err.. - fixing the toilets with Peter."

She raised a brow at him. "Fixing toilets, were you?"

He shot her a look. "Fine, we were pranking them. Don't use any bathrooms on the second floor tomorrow. And get that satisfactory grin off your face." he huffed.

She just grinned wider and looped their arms good naturedly.

This month they were assigned the courtyards to patrol, and Natalie was happy that they had it this month instead of a cooler month like December or January. Last year she had the courtyards in January with Salvo and she was always shivering.

"Are you ready for the Quidditch match this weekend? James and Sirius are pretty amped up about it." he asked after they had done their first lap.

She groaned. "Oh, Circe. Don't remind me."

He laughed. "That bad?"

"Yes, that bad. Salvo has had us training so often, I feel like my thighs are ready to turn to jelly and fall off. There's only so much conditioning and sitting on a broom I can do before my body gives out."

"It'll be alright. We can go get a massage at that place in Hogsmeade on the first trip. It's only a week away and Salvo will surely lighten up on you after the first match."

"Not if we lose." she said darkly.

He smirked at her but decided not to say anything. They walked in silence for a little longer.

Suddenly, Natalie muttered rapidly in Italian under her breath. "We won't be able to get massages together in Hogsmeade. That's when I'm supposed to meet my fiance for the first time."

"What?"

"Well technically he won't be my fiance until we sign the papers, so when we meet he'll be my supposed-to-be-fiance and then when I leave we'll be engaged..." she trailed off.

Natalie kept walking, not noticing that Remus had paused. She turned back to see him standing in place staring at her with his mouth slightly open.

"Engaged?" he asked.

"Well, not yet technically." she answered meekly. She walked back over to him and put his warm hand in hers. "I'm sorry, I forgot to tell you."

"That's not something you just forget to tell someone, Nat."

She sighed. "Fine. I just wanted to ignore it. Charlotte is so overjoyed about us being engaged at the same time that she can't really see past dress designs for the engagement party and Reg just says 'It's okay Nattie. You knew this was coming.'"

Remus nods. "But didn't you? Know this was coming, that is."

"Yes, I did. I just, I don't know, thought I would be free a little longer. That our work last year would delay any marriage contracts for just a little longer."
