It seemed impossible that three years at UA had passed so quickly. Sure, every individual day felt like it dragged on for an eternity but when you put them all together it seemed as though the weeks and months had disappeared in seconds.

One minute, Kaida, Katsuki, Kirishima and Shoto were lounging on couches in the dorm common room and the next, they inhabited the top floor of a skyscraper, waiting for the next emergency call that would send them out into the streets to protect the citizens of Musutafu.

It had been exhausting to convince Katsuki to start a joint agency with the others, but he had reluctantly given in, most likely to put an end to Kirishima and Kaida's daily pestering. The four had risen quickly in popularity, still too young to be given ranking numbers; but their reputations had blossomed across the city.

Contrary to the popular stereotypes about highschool relationships, both couples were still happily together a year after graduation; Kaida still kept both her and Shoto's black and white hair meticulously maintained, never allowing Shoto's red roots to reveal themselves for too long, and Kirishima somehow managed to keep Katsuki's temper under wraps. All things considered, the group of 20-year-olds was a highly effective squad.

It was almost 2am, and Kaida lounged half-asleep on a futon in the corner of her office. This particular night shift had been pleasantly uneventful. No convenience store robberies, muggings, nothing. Of course, there was the thrilling stack of paperwork sitting on her desk waiting to be filled out, but she had only gotten through a few sheets of debriefings and signaturing before deciding that a nap was a far sweeter option. She had no doubt that Shoto had chosen the more responsible option of completing his share of the torturous writing in his own office.

She was on the brink of a pleasant sleep when several sirens squealed past the building, snapping her eyes open and making her sit up. It couldn't have been a coincidence that her phone began to vibrate at the exact same moment, the familiar number of the police chief showing up on her screen.

"Black Summer." She answered, clamping her phone between her cheek and shoulder as she pulled on black combat boots and tied back the top layer of her now shoulder-length hair.

"You and Todoroki need to get to the city centre immediately." The chief sounded stressed, and Kaida could hear more sirens and voices shouting orders in the background.

"There's only one villain but we're having some trouble taking him down, and he keeps talking shit about how we're 'nowhere prepared for what's to come.' Now I'm not one to believe the ramblings of madmen, but better to be over prepared than under." He finished.

"Agreed." She concluded. "We'll be there in a minute."

She walked swiftly to Shoto's office, explaining the contents of her phone call before grabbing his hand and shadow-travelling them both to the city centre.

The large clearing in the forest of glass buildings had been emptied of civilians, and was now rimmed with a small army of policemen and vehicles topped with red and blue flashing lights.

The singular villain stood in the middle of the clearing, chains floating in the air around him, stemming from the skin of his back like metal tails. It was a simple guess to assume he could extrude the thick chains from his flesh like whips.

"Why haven't you just arrested him?" Shoto spoke to a nearby policeman.

"Well, he hasn't technically done anything wrong." The policeman looked sideways at the madman. "It just seems...off."

The villain grinned as Kaida approached him, showing yellow teeth that had clearly not seen a toothbrush in several months, but didn't attempt to attack.
