Stick to Soda Pop for Now

The light is so bright it's like the noon sun compared to the night around us. I can't help but stare in awe everyone else is in my position too. Except Lady who barks at the light then barrels past me into it. I scream her name running after her. I hear dad screaming my name but I ignore him. I get to Lady right inside the doors I squat down hugging her pulling her close. The rest of the group come in weapons up dad grabs the back of my shirt " You can't down that Jacob that was so stupid! You stay right by me the I don't care what happens ok?!" I protest "Lady -" he cuts me off " I don't care what Lady dose you can't rush head first without thinking! You stay at my side!" I nod dad lets go of me.
A man in a grey shirt with a shot gun approaches us. All the people holding weapons points them at him. I ready my knife in front of Lady who is just staring at the stranger. The stranger yells " anybody infected?" Uncle Rick answers " one of our group was he didn't make it" the stranger speaks again " why are you here what do you want?" Uncle Rick answers "a chance" the stranger looks concerned " that's asking a lot in this world" uncle Rick nods " I know please" there is a moment of silence where we are just looking at the stranger and he looks back at us he breaks the silence " you all submit to a blood test that's your entry fee" uncle Rick nods " we can do that" the stranger puts down his gun " you bring your stuff in now once this door closes it doesn't open again. Some of the men grab the bags dad hands me my bag. Sliding my bag on I get up following dad to the elevator. Uncle Rick puts his hand out to the stranger " Rick Grimes" the stranger doesn't take it but says "Dr. Edwin Jenner,"
While we are in the elevator it is a close fit I'm standing next to Carl with his mom behind him. Sophia is next to me and Carol is behind her. I can feel dad's had on my shoulder Lady sits in front of me with my hand rubbing behind her ear. Daryl breaks the silence that forms " Dr. Always packing heat like that?" Dr Jenner look over his shoulder " there was plenty laying around I familiarized myself" he looks at every one " but you look harmless enough." He looks down at Carl, Sophia and I "except you 3 I'll have have to keep my eye on y'all" I give him a scowl I don't like him he is creepy. He looks back at the door awkwardly, creep should be embarrassed. Dad gives my shoulder a light squeeze I look up he whispers " it's ok I'm right here. Won't let anything happen to you ok?" I nod.
We walk down the hallway behind Jenner. Carol ask " are we under ground?" Jenner turns his head " you claustrophobic?" She nods "a little" Jenner turns back ahead " try not to think about it."
We enter a large room with a bunch of computers Jenner speaks as we walk in "Vi bring up the lights in the big room." There is a humming sound as the lights come on Jenner walks forward "welcome to zone 5" where are zones 1-4 then and are there more? Uncle Rick questions Jenner "where is everybody? The other doctors the staff?" Jenner shakes his head dropping his shoulder he speaks " I'm it. It's just me here" that doesn't make sense how can it be just him? Lori speaks up " if it's just you who were you speaking with the one that turned the lights on, Vi?" Jenner raises his voice directing it up "Vi say hello to our guests welcome them" a strange voice comes from the ceiling "hello guests welcome" Jenner sighs " I'm all that's left I'm sorry" he walks away
When it's time for the blood test I get nervous. I hate the doctors I hate shots but I hat getting blood drawn most of all. I'm shaking but I put my arm out Jenner smiles with too much teeth " afraid of needles are you? And you were so tough in the elevator." He rude the alcohol on my arm then looks me in the eye "Now your shivering" I don't want this man to touch me. I jerk my arm back pulling to my chest. Jenner reaches across the table for me "give me your arm little boy" I shake my head "NO! Don't touch me!" Dad runs up "Jacob I know you hate getting blood drawn but you need to do this ok?" I shake my head " he is creepy" I say it loud enough for everyone to hear dad sighs Jenner looks taken back dad starts "Jacob-"  I won't give in though "you said if I didn't want someone to touch me Don't let them I don't want him to touch me" Andrea runs up to us " how about I do it" Jenner looks at her have you ever done it before" she shakes her head " but I had the nurse who took mine last explain everything in detail and Walsh boy is stubborn as a mule" she looks at dad he nods "alright if I'm right here and he explains step by step" Jenner sighs " I'm guessing no one has any medical experience here." Dad shakes his head "nalw Rick and I know cpr but that's it" Jenner looks at me " will you let her do it" I nod I trust her more than Jenner. As she is drawing my blood she asks Jenner " why do you want this anyway if we were infected we'd all be running a fever." He pull the full test tube off and hand her the gauze. She takes the thing Jenner called a catheter out and puts the gauze on tapping it down. " I've already broken all the rules by letting you in here let me just be thorough. I jump down Jenner continues "ok now Andrea and then will be done" Andrea sits down and he starts drawing her blood I sit against the wall by Daryl while dad leans against watching him. When Daryl speaks I look up at him " don't blame you kid he's creepy as shit" Jenner looks up " I can hear you" Daryl doesn't flinch " I know" Jenner finishes u with Andrea " ok all done , and mr Walsh that's a good thing to teach your kid least in the opinion of a man without any" he awkwardly chuckles. He rubs the back of his head "and I'm not like that I'm sorry for scaring you Jacob I won't touch you or make jokes like that ok?" I give a small nod still scowl.
Lori speaks up " you should not have made them it the first place." So she doesn't dislike me. Did I misunderstand the fight she had with dad?
Andrea gets up and stumbles " are you ok?" Jenner ask Jacqui catches her " she hasn't eaten for awhile had to drive nonstop most of the way." Jenner looks surprised.
I look around the dinner table every one is having a good time eating and drinking it's food I haven't eaten since that first night. Dale is standing up pouring a glass of wine " you know in Italy children have a little bit of wine with dinner and in France" he hands Lori a glass of wine. She shakes her head " when Carl is in France or Italy he can have some" uncle Rick laughs smiling "what's it gonna hurt come on" Dale laughs. Uncle Rick and Lori  or aunt Lori I'm not sure share a look she breaks first smiling and laughing " Ok"  the whole table laughs except for Allen he just downs another glass of wine. Gets up saying "come on boys time for bed" he leaves with a bottle of wine. Rick try's to call out for him to come back or at least let the boys stay but Ben and Billy hesitantly get up following their dad. Dad speaks up "Jacob can have a little" Dale hands me a glass with a little wine in it " here your wine young lad" dad speaks " sip don't chug it like you do everything" I take a sip it taste like it's rotten I nearly spit it out "uhggg" I put the glass down scraping my tongue with my teeth. Everyone laughs I see that Carl and Sophia have similar reactions. Lori rubs Carls back " that's my boy that's my boy" dad laughs "ya better stick to soda pop kids" he pats my back. Daryl laughs from the counter he is on pointing at Glenn " not you Glenn" Glenn looks a little sacred "what?" Daryl jumps down " your drinking little man! want to see how red your face gets!" That sends everyone laughing again. Except Jenner he is just watching us like a creep. Uncle Rick hits his glass with his fork standing up "it seems to me we haven't thanked our host properly" he raises his glass so dose every one else "hear hear!" Daryl yell " Booyah !" With a bottle there are many more booyah after that. The good mood doesn't last dad stares at the Doctor " so when you gonna tell us what happened here doc? All the other doctors. They were supposed to be figuring out what happened how to fix it. Where are they" the room falls quite uncle Rick speaks " Shane we are celebrating. Don't need to do this right now" dad shakes his head lifts his hand up motioning to Jenner then uncle Rick " hold on wait a second this is why we are here right? This is your move supposed to find all the answers instead we found him" he points with his thumb to Jenner "found one guy why. Why only one?" Jenner speaks "when things got bad a lot of people just left ran off to be with their families then when it got worse when the military codon got overrun the rest bolted" dad looks at his drink " everyone every damn one?" Jenner shakes his head " no many couldn't face the idea of walking out the door they .... Opted out" I don't understand I shift closer to dad before I can ask Jenner continues " there was a rash of suicides that was a bad time" Andrea looks at him " you didn't leave why ?"  Jenner looks up at her  " I just kept working hoping to do something good with what was left" Glenn walks around the table looking at dad " dude you are such a buzzkill, man" he sits down.
We are following Jenner walking down the hallway I'm walking in between Sophia and Carl. Jenner explains as he walks in front " most the facility powered down including housing so you'll have to make due here. The couches are comfortable but there are cots in storage if you would like" he points ahead " the kids might enjoy the rec room down the hall just don't plug in the video games okay or anything that draws power the same applies if you shower go easy on the hot water." He drops his hand walking off.  Glenn Carl Sophia and I turn around Glenn smiles " Hot water?!" He turns to T-Dog who smiles "that's what the man said" they both laugh we rush to the shower. Each shower has a private room. Dad tells me to shower first then I can go to the rec room. The hot water feels nice it takes lots of scrubbing to get the dirt off the water is brow when it comes off when I'm clean I get dressed. When I leave the shower room dad goes in holding a bottle of wine . I hope he is ok.
When I get to the rec Carl and Sophia are already there. I don't know where Billy and Ben are probably still in the room with there dad. Carl and Sophia are playing checkers I walk up to them " really checkers again?" Sophia looks up at me "yeah but it kinda boring want to play go fish?" I nod "yeah I the go fish champion" Carl smiles "I'm in." So we play go fish. Sophia asks "Jacob do you have the man with the sword." That makes me stop " do you mean the king?" She nods " yeah is that what it's called I need the one that's a weird clover" I look at her " do you know what the suits are called?" She shakes her Carl asks " what a suit" I sigh I was win this game. I put my hands up dramatically "alright time to get learnt you unwashed peasants" Carol snorts behind her book. "Ok this is a king, queen and jack, these are your face cards." I place the cards down as I say it. I pick up the ace of spades " this is an ace. It can be 1 or 11 depending on the game. This one is the ace of spades." I take breath picking up the ace of each suit " this is the clubs, diamonds and the hearts. There are four suites in most games they are equal in value it how you match them up that matters ok?" There might be games where they are different values but I don't know any. " ok so there is ace through 10 then it goes jack queen and king. Sometimes ace is the highest card but most it is one or 11 y'all understand ok?" They give small nods Sophia speaks first "I think I understand" Carl scratches his cheek " yeah me too" ok then I nod " let's get back to go fish" during our game Lori comes in she smiles at Carol " any good books?" Carol smiles at her " uh-huh lots got enough to keep me busy for a year" she looks at the clock " alright you kids bed time." We get up Lori address Carl " go say your prayers baby I'm going to browse a bit" he nods and heads off. I'm behind him until I see dad walk in he doesn't see us because his back is turned he probably came another way. I wait for a bit the others walk ahead. Dad was stumbling when he was going in there he must be drunk but why is he going to the rec room with Lori in there aren't they fighting? So why would he want to be alon in a room with her?
I say my good nights then head back to the rec room I don't know what it is but something makes me stop at the doorway out of site.  I hear dad talking to her "How can you treat me like this" she sounds annoyed " your kidding right?" He doesn't stop "no huh-uh" she is angry now "you told me my husband was dead!" He did but dad said that he thought he was dead. Dad sighs " Jesus Lori I didn't lie to you do you know what it was like there" he slams the door with out seeing me his voice is muffled I can barely make it out" things  .. falling apart, ..slaughtering people ..hallways .. massacre.. walkers everywhere" Lori says something I can't make out dad shouts " everyone else ran ! There were no doctors there it was just me he was hooked up to all the machines and I did not know what to do! I put my ear on his chest THERE WAS NO HEART BEAT! I don't know why maybe it was the gunfire!" I feel a thud on the door " there was no way he could have survived that no way" Lori speaks again she is clam so I can't hear her I can hear dad " but then I had y'all to think about I had two boys and you, didn't I have to get y'all to Atlanta that what I had to do." He lowers his voice where I can't hear it. I hear talking but can't make it out there I hear " Shane get your hands off Get you HANDS OFF ME !" I have to do something I struggle with the door before kicking it open! "DAD!" I shout dad freezes it enough time for Lori to scratch him and run out the room. I stare at dad "what happened" he sways " I was trying to get her to listen she thought I left your uncle knowing he was alive I swear I didn't" he is hiding something but he's my dad so I believe him. When we get back to our room dad lays on his cot with another bottle of wine. I crawl into bed. Grabbing on to lady so was already in the bed hugging her close. I wish it was a dreamless sleep but it's not it's full of horror.
I wake up dad is still asleep I roll out of bed Lady not there. After I'm dressed I walk to the café rubbing my eyes " good morning Jay." I look up at the voice to see it's T-Dog making breakfast. I come around the counter to help and see Lady begging him. T-Dog smiles " can you help me with this Lady she is too cute to resist." We share a laugh. "You want some help T?" I ask he turns from the eggs "can you mix up the orange juice?" " yep" I pop the p as I say it. I get the orange juice mix down and fill the pitcher with water I pour the mix in it looks like slime I stir it up and fill it with ice stirring it more.  People start walking up And sitting down at the table. Dale comes first the food is done Dale sits down with his plate " morning you let T-Dog help you make breakfast Jacob?" I smile shaking my head " I just mixed the orange juice" he laughs " then I'll have a glass of OJ" I pour him a glass. Daryl comes in next grumbles out " morning" and eats his food. People start coming out faster Jacqui comes out wishing everyone a good morning. I smile " morning Jacqui, orange juice?" She smiles giving my a empty glass " yes thank you sweetie" I feel her glass. Andrea comes in " morning ugh" she looks sick " Andrea are you feeling ok? Do you want to eat?" I ask she looks at me " don't worry about me Walsh boy yeah I'll eat" I give her a plate of food  and orange juice. Sophia, Carol, the twins, and Allen come out they greet everyone and start eating. Lori and Carl come in " morning Jacob you help make breakfast?" Carl says I nod " good morning and yep" Lori tells me "good morning Jacob" I look at her a bit surprised " morning" I expected her to be mad at me because she's mad at dad. When Glenn comes in he plops down on a chair laying his head on the table with a groan. That causes a few chuckles. Uncle Rick comes in with a " morning" Carl asks "are you hungover? Mom said you would be" I snort  uncle Rick sits down " Mom is right." Lori smiles while eating " mom has that annoying has that annoying habit" T-Dog walks around the table " eggs powdered, but I do them Good: bet you can't tell." He goes to Glenn putting his hands on his shoulders " protein helps the hangover"  uncle Rick asks where the pain medicine comes from. Lori says " Jenner said it would help some of us" Glenn groans "don't ever ever let me drink again" dad comes in more of groaning than talking" hey"when he sees me " morning champ" he heads straight to the coffee table uncle Rick asks " feel as bad as I do?" Dad looks down at the coffee "worse" I grab myself a plate sitting at the table to eat. T-dog looks at dad " the hell happened to your neck?"  Dad sits down " must of done it in my sleep" I look down shoving food into my mouth. I don't want my face to give it away. uncle Rick looks up from his food " never seen you do that before" dad takes a sip of his coffee " me neither" he looks at Lori " not like me at all." I've finish my breakfast Lady is staring at me I know she is hungry. I get up from the table as Jenner is walking in "champ where ya going" it's dad I turn around " get Lady's food" Jenner stops me " there's a hot dog sausage MRE in the cabinet is doesn't have any spice or anything that can hurt her. Would be a nice treat" I look up at him in surprise " thanks Dr. Jenner" he smiles with no teeth still creepy though. Maybe I misjudged him? I look at dad he nods. I call Lady " come on girl you want hot dogs" when she get excited I smile "you little cannibal"  I go to the cabinet bringing the MREs down. As I'm going through them I hear Dale say " doctor I don't mean to slam you with questions first thing but" I find the hot dog one pour the water in and put the food bag in. Jenner answers Dale " but you will anyway" Andrea turns to him " we didn't come here for the eggs" Jenner turns around "ok after breakfast I'll show you" when the MRE is done I pour it in a plate Lady gobbles it all up in a few minutes.
We are walking in a room full of computers the is a large screen on one wall Jenner walks up to a computer " vi give me a play back of TS-19" the robotics voice responds " play back of TS-19" the screen beeps showing something loading with images of brains on it  Jenner puts his hand on his hips " few people ever got to see this very few." The screen shows a large picture if a head that as is loads shows a brain. Carl asks if it is one. Jenner looks from the screen to him " An extraordinary one" then back at the screen " not that it matters now in the end" there is no one else here Jenner talks like it's not his brain that means I hear my voice say " this person is dead." It's not a question but Jenner treats it like one " yes they are, Take us in for EIV" VI says from above " Enhanced internal view" the brain mover where the person is sideway its full of light sparking all over it it's beautiful. It zooms in more I'm completely I'm completely mesmerized by it it zooms in to what looks like spider weds it reminds me of jimmy neutron. The spider webs are still full of lights I want to ask what they are. Dad beats me to it. Jenner doesn't look away from the screen " it's a person life experience memories thoughts it's everything somewhere in that organic wiring in those lights is you" he points around to us " the things that make you special what makes you well you. that's what makes us human" Daryl snorts " you don't sense even?" Jenner points to the screen loudly saying " those are synapses electric impulses in the brain that carry all the messages. The determine everything a person thinks says or does from the moment they form in their mothers womb to they moment they die they, it goes dark" uncle Rick walks up to him " die? This is a vigil isn't it?" Jenner keeps his eyes on the screen " yes" he turns to uncle Rick " or rather the play back of one" Andrea approach's the screen " who were they" Jenner looks at the screen "test subject 19 someone who was bitten and infected. she volunteered to have her process recorded." He looks up but keeps his eye on the screen " VI scan forward to the first event" VI fake sounding comes from above " scanning to first event" there's more beeping the screen says 'scanning forward' the brain has lights on the outside but there is a black something in the middle. It looks like the fungus I once saw spread on our back shead dad had to use bleach to get it off.  I speak my mind " it looks like fungus" Jenner looks over his shoulder at me " we are actually not sure what it is all we know it's not a prion that's basically a protein that messes other proteins up. If it was it would be slower and have big holes in the brain like mad cow disease" I hear Glenn say "so that's it then what turns us?"He points to the black stuff Jenner points up in invades the brain like meningitis the adrenal gland hemorrhage the brain goes into shut down then the major organs" the person struggles then the brain goes dark. They are dead Jenner looks down " then death everything you ever were or ever will be gone." I hear Sophia ask " is that what happened to Jim" she is asking her mom but I nod anyway Carol answers "yes"  Andrea takes in a shaky  breath. She must be thinking about Amy. Lori speaks up " she lost her sister two days ago"  Jenner walks up to her " I lost someone too I know how devastating it is" he walks back to the screen " scan to the second event" VI responds " scanning to second event" Jenner speaks again " the resurrection time vary widely we got reports of it happening in as little as 3 minutes the longest we heard of was 8 hours in this patient case it took 2 hours 1 minute and 7 seconds." That's not anywhere on the screen he remembered that.
There is a flashes of red light where the brain and spinal cord meet the a dim red light stays at the base of the brain. Lori says in surprise " it starts the brain again?" Jenner shakes his head " no just the stem. Basically it can move the corpse and get them up" uncle Rick speaks " but they are dead?" Jenner points to the screen " you tell me" uncle Rick looks at the screen " it's nothing like before that brain is mostly dark" Jenner speaks " dark lifeless dead the frontal lobes the neocortex the human part that stay dark it doesn't come back the you part is gone. Just a shell driven by mindless instinct" there is a flash a hole appears in the head it stops moving Carol gets up " what was that?" Andrea puts it together " he shot his patient in the head." She looks at Jenner " didn't you?" Jenner ignores her question " Vi power down the main screen and the work stations" the screen and computers go dark. Andrea speaks her mind " you have no idea what it is do you?" Jenner looks back " we know it's not a prion but it could be viral parasitic microbial or like Mr Jacob observed fungal" Jacqui speaks up " or the wrath of God" Jenner looking down say " there is that" Andrea walks towards Jenner " somebody must know something someone somewhere!" I want her to be right so bad I want to have hope. Carol voice is next " there are others right other facilities?" Jenner turns to her " maybe there's some people like me all alone" I don't understand why would he not know don't these places talk to each other? Uncle Rick walks up to him " but how can you not know!?" Jenner answers " everything went down communication directives all of it. For all most a month I've been in the dark" Andrea looks at him " so it's not just here it all over the world it everyone nothing is left?"  Jenner swallows as she continues " that's what your really saying right?" Is it all over no I still got my dad i have Lady I have Carl uncle Rick and aunt or not aunt Lori I haven't decided yet but I still have them,I have Daryl, Andrea, Sophia T-dog Glenn everyone else and I have my life so there is still hope I refuse to die! Daryl walks around rubbing his head " man I'm going to get shit faced again" then I see it it's a clock or I thought it was but there no time that's 59:59 not even in military time it is counting down. I turn to Jenner pointing at the timer " what is the timer for I know it counting down but to what" he looks awkward " that timer is for when the basement generators run out of fuel." He quickly turns around Uncle Rick stares at him " that's not it what happens then?" Jenner walks off I  know he is hiding something we need to leave. Uncle Rick speaks " VI what happens when the power runs out" vi speaks " when the power runs out decontamination takes place facility wide" that is not good I run to my room to grab dads and mine stuff everyone else does too except  the men they run to the basement to check the generators. I didn't unpack neither did dad do I just have to shove our clothes from yesterday and the night clothes in the backpacks. As I'm doing that it gets hotter by a bit and the emergency lighting comes on. I throw the bags on my back yell for lady who comes bonding beside me as I run back out of the room. I catch up to the others as uncle Rick questions Jenner " Jenner what's happening" Jenner walks past him " the system is dropping all nonessential uses of power is designed to keep the computers running to the last possible second it starts as we approach the half hour mark." We renter the computer room he continues " right on schedule" Jenner takes a swig of his bottle of wine before handing it to Daryl who snatches it. Jenner speaks "the French were it" did they come up with a cure wait that doesn't make sense the way Jenner says it. Andrea asks " what?" Jenner turns to her " they were the last ones to hold out at least at far as I know while we we bolting out the doors and killing themselves the French stayed in the labs till the end they thought they were close to a solution" I speak up " then what why the past tense?" Jenner takes a step up turning around he speaks " same thing that's happening here no power grid ran out of juice the world runs on fossil fuel how dumb is that" Jenner turns around I can't stop thinking he planning something dad runs up the stairs pissed "LET ME TELL YOU LET ME TELL YOU!" Uncle Rick stops him grabbing his shoulder " Shane ,SHANE! To hell with it. I don't even care Lori grab our things everybody go get your stuff. WE ARE GETTING OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW!"  I run to the door but freeze when I hear extremely loud alarm blaring a computerized voice says "30 minutes until decontamination" Daryl yell " doc what's going on here?!" Jenner dose something with what looks like a weird phone dad yells" y'all herd Rick get your stuff and LET'S GO!" I run out the door as soon as me and Lady are on the other side it closes. It take my brain to register IT CLOSED I turn around banging on the door I see uncle Rick through it. He runs up to me I can  hear him through the door he starts yelling " Jacob! Are you OK!" I nod  I'm scared but not hurt. I hear Glenn yell " YOU JUST LOCKED US IN!" I'm pounding on the door but I'm barely even making a sound. He turns to Jenner " YOU LOCKED A CHILD OUT HE IS A LITTLE BOY" I hear Carl scream for his mom. Daryl runs at Jenner with a bottle  "YOU SON OF A BITCH" uncle Rick yells " SHANE" dad and T-Dog stop Daryl fromt killing Jenner.  They pull him off holding him T-Dog saying " no no" uncle Rick walks up the Jenner " Hey Jenner open that door now" Jenner shakes his head " no point everything topside is sealed even the emergency exits are locked down" I hear Daryl snap " well open the damn things!" I am getting more scared my hearts beating out of my chest my tears start running down my cheeks I keep pounding on the door to no avail. Jenner shakes his head " that's not something I can do I don't control it the computers do. I told You once that front door closes it doesn't open again you heard me say that." He pauses putting his hand down " it's better this way" Uncle Rick turns to him " what is?! What happens in 28 minutes!?" Jenner doesn't say he turns to his keyboard dad grabs the back of his chair repeating the question. Jenner stands up shouting "DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS PLACE IS WE PROTECTED THE PUBLIC FROM VERY NASTY STUFF! WEAPONIZED SMALLPOX! EBOLA STRAINS THAT CAN KILL OVER HALF THE COUNTRY! STUFF THAT CAN NEVER GET OUT!"' The tears on my face are mixing with the snot from my nose. The last  of my bravery is gone " DADDY" dad comes running he gets all the against the door I press my hands an forehead against the door taking a few deep breaths he place his hands where mine are on the other side pressing his forehead to mind " Jacob I need you to listen to me I love you. So much I would do anything for you there is nothing I wouldn't do for you you know that ok?" I nod sniffing he continues " do you see any way to open the door from your side?" I look around till I hear Jenner voice " the only way to open it is from this side it's impossible to open anywhere else but there is no way out anyway it will be painless I can promise you that" I put my hands and face against dads again he takes a deep breath before speaking " you have to get out of here ok. I want you to run. We might be trapped but you're not ok" I shake my head " DAD I can't leave you!" He hits the door "YOU HAVE TO!" When I flinch he clams down   " I'm sorry ok but you have to run I love you son so much I want you to live remember what I taught you?" I nod he smiles " ok then run find a way out and remember I love Jacob" I nod " I love you dad" I grab the bags and run Lady is right beside me as I run up the stairs to find a way out.

I get up I hear several gunshots but don't stop. I get to the top the doors won't open I start throwing chairs at the window but the only thing I managed to break is the chairs. I start panting I have to get out of here. I want to save the others but I can't do that if the top won't open. For a second I wish I was in the room with dad at least then I could hug him when it happens. NO FUCK THAT I'm going to live that's the first time I've thought that word dad would kill me if I said it. What is wrong with me if I don't get out I'll be dead anyway, like him, no I'll find a way out and then what screw that first I need to find a way out a way to live for dad. I search through my bag and find a box of fire crackers the small kind that's two inches big the box is half full I dump them all in a pile against the window using my fire striker it lights a fuse after a few tries I run to the opposite side of the room crouch down covering my face and holding Lady's close. Once I hear several bags I look up nothing. I get closer to inspect there is a small crack I grab a chair leg hitting it with all my might. No change I take a few deep breaths there's not much time left I need to think of something. I hear foot steps then "JACOB!" I look up running to my father he wraps me in his arms picking me up I hug him back clinging on with all my strength " dad your ok!" He pats my back " we're not ok yet got to find away out any ideas" I look up at him " I made a crack" he looks surprised " where?" I take him to the crack Daryl stops where he was hitting on the window looking at the crack "how you do that kid?" I look up " fire crackers" dad starts " where did you never mind you'll have no idea" I shake my head dad and Daryl hit the window with axes right on the crack. T-Dog tries a chair no luck dad shouts " Dog get down!" As the approaches the door with a shot gun. T-Dog hits the ground dad shots the crack nothing. Sophia shouts " the glass won't break?!" Carol comes up say " Rick I have something that might help" while digging in her purse dad shakes his head "Carol a nail file is not going to help" she ignores him " your first morning at camp I washed your clothes and found this in your pocket" she pulls out a grenade I was not expecting that how did Uncle Rick forget about a grenade?! He takes it running to the crack I run the opposite way down the stairs dad jumps on me covering me after the explosion I see Ben and Billy come up but no Allen as soon as dad gets off me I run to them " guys we have to go" the shake there head " daddy won't come we have to get him"  I shake my head grabbing their hands " I'm sorry but there is no time he made his choice don't let him make yours" I particularly drag them out. They start crying but I don't stop running they may hate me later but they will be alive to hate me. I'm much slower dragging them I get out the window pulling them along. Dad is already at the car by the time I'm to the sandbags  he turns around and starts running to me yell to run but Lori who is further behind beats him to so she has just enough time to get us on the ground under her when everything explodes it takes me a minute to realize that Lori no Aunt Lori saved us. She saved Ben Billy and me. We get to the RV. I take a few deep breaths hugging the twins. I look up at my aunt " thank you Aunt Lori I'm-" she cuts me off hugging me " don't worry about it love you Jacob" Carl hugs us to " Jay I thought I thought -" I lay my head against his " I'm ok Carl were all ok" I feel the RV moving the twins start crying I hug them tighter " it's ok I got you" Ben sniff " we're all alone now mommy and daddy are are" I shake my head "you have me I got you" Billy looks at me " are you out big brother now?" I pause the nod " if you want to be I'll protect you no matter what ok?" they nod both say " ok I always wanted a big brother" I smile rubbing there back. I hear uncle Rick say from the driver seat " I'm glad that you are all ok but you need to sit down boys. We get into the booth next to us. I keep my arms on them Sophia speaks up " so who's going to tell mr Shane he as more sons" that gets chuckles out of the adults. I look up at her " I will"

So I was not planning on Jacob adopting the twins should they both die there death if they happen would not be till season 3-4 at least should one live or what I want your ideas because I'm not sure. Be nice please.
I wasn't sure where to kill Allen he makes it to the prison in the comics but this story is a mix of show and comics mostly show.
So maybe one more chapter it will be really short

And I was creeped out by Jenner in the show I don't think he is like that at all but I did find him creepy in the he is hiding something way

Should tyreese get his comic interdiction basically they would meet him and family on the road near the farm or the show. He will be a badass
