—— [ part two ]
Dream followed him through the house. He was yelling for him, calling out to George the entire way. The boys, who were all in the living room, fell silent at the scene.
George stayed quiet, making his way to their shared bedroom. He knew Dream was following so he left the door open. He stood in the middle of the room, staring down at the bed.
Bad idea. Bad fucking idea. You idiot.
"Did you close the door?" George slowly asked, not looking at him.
"Yes," He immediately replied.
George nodded, staying silent. He shouldve stayed in bed. That was close, way too close. It couldve happened. It shouldnt ever happen like that, no way in hell.
"Will you look at me?" Dream asked, stepping forward him.
George shook his head. "Im afraid to."
"Why?" Dream asked, reaching out for him. He slowly turned George around. "See? Nothing happened."
"Dont you get it?" George asked, looking at him.
"Why dont you trust yourself a bit more?" Dream asked in reponse, looking down at George.
"Because im not falling for this again, i cant." George answered, frowning at him. He hated how fast Dream spun this, and how fast Georges idiotic self fell for it.
Dream furrowed his brows at that. He seemed confused as he asked, "Falling for what? What have i done thats so bad?"
"Dream--" George cautioned, taking a step back. Dont do this. He wanted to beg for Dream to walk out the door and pretend this wasnt happening.
"I deserve to know!" He pressed on. Of course he would, hes Dream. Fucking stubborn.
"I WONT FALL FOR YOU!" George screamed out, pushing him away. "S-So just... back off, okay?"
Dream had looked genuinely heartbroken. George hadnt seen the face he made since the time they were in the car together for the very first time.
That made George want to cry.
"Why?" Dream asked quietly. His voice cracked.
And that made George want to punch himself.
Still, he put on his brace face. He scowled, "Because i can tell how this is going to end up, im not an idiot."
"Well youre no Albert Einstein, either. You arent even going to give me a chance?"
George shook his head. That couldnt happen, it was too complicated for him and he couldnt handle complicated. Not in a million years. "Can we just... Cant we get through this vacation as friends? And only friends?"
"Because the idea of us is that repulsive to you?" Dream let out a scoff, taking a step back."Are you seriously telling me this is one sided?"
"Yes. Now please, give me space." George turned, facing away from him.
"George, come on--"
"I wasnt asking, Dream." He cut Dream off, "Get out."
"Fine. Merry Christmas, by the way." Silence followed harsh bitter words, followed by the bedroom door slamming shut.
George glanced down at his phone, ignoring the tear that fell down his cheek.
Fuck.
"So thats it between you guys?" Nadine asked, baffled. She souned more upset than the both of them. "It ended before it even started."
George sighed, turning on the lamp next to him. "Nadine, please do not lecture me about him right now."
"Im not, i guess im a little confused, is all?" She replied to him as snarky as ever.
"How." He blanked.
"Because when you look at him, it seems like you two are meeting for the first time. Because i hear how he whispers to you when you think no ones listening. Or how you giggle at your phone when--"
"Enough, please." He cut his sister off, closing his eyes. "I needed to end it before things happened and i got hurt. Theres no way that would have worked out between us."
"When are you coming home?"
George shrugged, eyes staring holes into the bedroom door. "I might talk him into taking us home tomorrow, i dont know."
Nadine let out a soft sigh, "Its be cool to spend New Years together."
He nodded, "Yeah, it would. Howd mom and dad take me leaving?"
"Hated it, was mad." She replied, giggling a bit.
"Expected no less of the two." George rolled his eyes. He threw himself back onto the bed, sighing.
"Can i be honest with you?"
"No,"
"Dream will either help you become the person youve always wanted to be, or he will break your heart."
"Gee, thanks." George frowned up at the ceiling. He was starting to hate this conversation. Would it be mean to hang up on her?
"Let me finish." Nadine scolded him, "Its up to you to decide if it will be worth it. No one can make this decision but you. You already know what to do, you just need to gather the courage."
He sqt up slowly, looking at the door. "And if i dont want to fight for it?"
"No one wants to fight for things. We just know when its necessary to do so." She paused, "I have to go, ill text you."
A knocked echoed through the room, though it wasnt from the door to the living room. George glanced over as the door to the bathroom opened slowly.
"Who was that?" Dream asked hesitantly, holding on tightly to the doorknob.
"My sister," George replied. He glanced down at his phone. "She uh, really misses me."
Dream nodded, standing there silently for a moment. He cleared his throat, "Its okay to say you want to go home."
"Would you hate me if i did?"
"No," Dream smiled sympathetically. "Its okay. We can leave tonight if you really want to."
"But, Dream--"
Dream shook his head, taking a step back. "I get it, George. Just pack, and ill go tell the others something important came up." He closed the bathroom door behind him.
Silence has never been so loud.
