The sky was pitch black.
And the buildings were deep grey.
And the streets were blood red.
"What happened here?" He asked, looking around.
"That's the thing I wanted to tell you- we don't know. This island didn't exist until a few days ago, and when we checked it out, it looked like this. Also, there aren't any people here. We haven't found any traces of life."
"Have you run blood tests on this stuff? Do you know who they were?"
The man in the denim jacket shook his head. "No. This blood, if that's even what it is, isn't human. Or from any alien species we know, but there's not many."
"It's red at least... You know, human blood color. That's promising. And these buildings, however dilapidated they are, seem like ones on Earth. Like ones in New York, even."
The ground shook a little and he lost his footing.
"What the heck was that?" He asked, turning to the man in the denim jacket.
"We don't know, but it happens a lot. Always right on the hour. Except five. Doesn't happen at five."
"Do you know why?"
The man shook his head and looked at the ground.
"I don't know anything anymore. Not since the Blip."
"It was tough on you too?"
He caught the man's eye.
"I Blipped and found out my fiancé was dating someone else. And they had a kid..."
"I'm sorry..."
"Don't be. I've had enough pity. We need to just get on with the job." He said, changing the subject and walking off into one of the buildings that was still standing.
