She had never wanted to end up there. But her job sent her to places she didn't want to go.
The plane ride had been in silence. Everyone wanted to prepare themselves. They strapped on their masks and tied the bracelets around their wrists.
Hers was yellow today.
She like the yellow ones, they were soft and didn't dig into her skin like the blue or green did, and weren't itchy like the red.
Her mask was good too, although she had it on every mission.
On her first one, it had been so heavy and uncomfortable. Her commander had to yell at her to keep up because of it.
But all the bullets and knives must have lightened it, or she had just gotten used to the extra weight.
Whatever it was she was very glad about it. She wouldn't have been given these more intense missions if she still hated the mask.
The island was below her now and she looked down at it.
There were rumours about this place.
That it had appeared from nowhere.
That everything on it didn't show up on scans like it didn't exist.
That anyone who stepped foot on it would be erased from time.
But they were just rumours. They weren't real. She knew that. But still, she gazed through the yellowing window at the decaying place.
That was impossible...
She looked again.
Two men were walking about on the surface.
She moved, her face smooshed up against the glass to see as much as she could.
But they were there.
Why had she been told no one was on the island if they were clearly there.
The plane growled and screeched as it landed with a thud, and once it opened up and they were allowed out, she jumped up and ran to where she had seen them.
They were gone.
Where had they gone?
She looked around, confused.
Then the crash happened.
