AN: Quick author's note. Some songs for this chapter: Honey, Honey by ABBA from the musical Mamma Mia!, My Girl by The Temptations, The Longest Time by Billy Joel. They fit the first part of the chapter really well if you wanna look them up and get a feel for the mood.
I threw my head back and laughed loudly as I ran away. "You'll never catch me!" I yelled.
"I wouldn't bet on it!" Brooklyn answered, speedin' after me.
I screeched as I realized she was catchin' up to me fast. I kicked in and moved my arms to propel me forward, but it was no use.
She tackled me and straddled my hips, smirking. "Did I forget to mention I was the track star at my old school?"
I groaned and threw my hands above my head. "Okay, I give up! You win meanie!" I stuck my tongue out at her playfully.
Brooklyn laughed her wonderful laugh and rolled off me. Then she reached out a hand and helped me up.
I jumped up, my blonde hair flowin' wildly behind me.
Today she hadn't straightened her hair so it was in its natural state of crazy curly. She still looked gorgeous as ever in her white, short-sleeved crop top and black skater skirt.
"It's rude to stare, Carolina." She teased.
Color rose to my cheeks. "Not my fault you're so hot." I muttered.
"What was that?" She asked, smirkin' so I knew she had really heard me.
"Nothin'."
"No, I think I heard something."
"Nope."
"I think I did."
"Ugh fine. I said you're hot. You happy now?"
She grinned. "Very." Then she pulled me closer saying, "C'mere." She ambushed me with a long kiss.
When it ended I whipped my head around. "We're in a public park, B! Anyone could've seen!"
She sighed. "I know, I know." Then she groaned. "I hate hiding like this. I did enough of that when I was still in the closet."
Frownin', I gave her a hug. "I'm sorry. I'm just not ready for this. I'm scared."
Brooklyn sighed again and nodded. "It's okay." Then she smiled playfully. "You're lucky you're so damn cute."
I grinned. "And even luckier to have you."
"This is true." She said, shrugging nonchalantly."
We held hands and walked off to the woods, our original plan.
As we walked along, birds chirped and hummed their songs.
"So what's up with you and Lillian?" Brooklyn asked, shootin' me a curious look.
My heart pounded. "Nothin'." I answered slowly.
"Well she's your best friend yet you haven't talked in a long time. Shouldn't you have made up by now?"
I shook my head. "We're still fightin'."
"I wish you guys would make up." She pouted.
"Why?"
"Cause she's your best friend. And you're not as happy without her."
"Have I seemed unhappy?" I frowned. "I'm happy."
Brooklyn nodded. "I know. But it's not the same as before. You need her, Car."
I shrugged. "Maybe I can forgive her one day. I don't wanna talk about it right now."
