Anxiety Relief (Steven Universe)

Summary: Spinel has been feeling more anxious lately due to the Diamonds being so busy fixing all the corrupted gems. So, Steven introduces Spinel to littlespace in order to help her cope with her anxiety and abandonment issues.

Spinel's little age: 6

Also I gave the gems the ability to regress both physically and emotionally, since Steven was able to fluctuate his age and Amethyst was able to turn into a baby, so Spinel will physically and emotionally regress in this chapter!

Spinel stood pacing around Homeworld, muttering to herself. "What if they never have time for me again? What if they abandon me like Pink did? What if they think I'm annoying?" She mumbled.

Steven, who had been checking up on the Diamonds, overheard her. "Hi, Spinel!" He smiled warmly. "Steven!" Spinel instantly wrapped her rubbery arms around him in a tight embrace.

Steven hugged her, noticing that she was gripping on to him rather tightly. "Uh, Spinel? You okay?" He asked, patting her back gently, trying to free himself.

Spinel looked at him, tears gathering in her dark eyes. "Hey, hey..." Steven whispered gently, hugging her close. "What's wrong?" He hasn't seen her this upset since since he helped her change a few years ago.

"W-What if t-they n-never stop being b-busy...?" Spinel whispered, her breath hitching. "W-What if t-they never h-have time for m-me again...?" She whimpered.

Steven frowned, hearing her breathing quite hard. "Spinel, they will...they may be busy now, but they'll always have time for you, I promise..." He rubbed her back gently as she resumed clinging to him.

"O-Okay..." She still seemed unsure though. Steven hummed. "I remember when I was growing up, the gems would be busy doing gem stuff all the ttime, and I thought they wouldn't have time for me, they did..."

Spinel looked at him. "They did?" Steven nodded, smiling. He saw that she was calming down, but still seemed anxious. He understood. He had anxiety too. And tgere was something he used to cope with it.

"Hey Spinel? I think I know something that will help you feel more calm." Steven said softly. Spinel blinked curiously, waiting for him to continue. So, Steven took a deep breath, ready to explain his idea.

"Have you ever heard of age regression or littlespace?" He asked. Spinel shook her head. "Well, age regression is what some people use to cope with stress and help them calm down." Steven explained.

Spinel still looked confused, so Steven continued. "They regress, or act younger than their age, to feel more happy, calm and carefree, and to relieve stress or anxiety or just for fun." Steven added.

Spinel's eyes lit up. "Ohhh, so you think it'll help me?" She asked. "Only one way to find out! Now, close your eyes and think of happy thoughts, let yourself relax..." Steven spoke calmly whilst rocking her gently.

Spinel did as he said, closing her eyes and letting her mind wander. Suddenly, she became smaller. Physically smaller. Steven's eyes widened. He forgot gems could make themselves older or younger or fluctuate their age like he did.

Spinel was now the size of a kindergartener and had her heart-shaped pigtails back. She looked younger. Steven chuckled a bit. He wasn't expecting her to actually physically regress, but she was a gem, so...yeah.

"Steven, Steven, Steven!" Her voice was more high-pitched. "Steven!" He laughed and hugged her close. "Wow, you did it...you regressed emotionally and physically, good job, Spinel!" He grinned.

Spinel grinned widely at the praise. "Thank you!" She giggled. She clung to Steven's leg, now much smaller than he was. "You're adorable!" Steven awed, patting her head.

Spinel giggled, looking adorable. Her eyes were so full of light and she felt so calm and happy. "Let's play!" She grabbed Steven's hand and led him to her room. It was all pink and pretty with cute stuff inside.

Spinel had tea sets, dolls, stuffed animals and other things. She was kind of already a kid before, with her child-like personality. Steven grinned. "What do you want to play?" He figured she'd played with Rose a lot before what had happened.

"Tea party!" Spinel set the small table for both of them. She added a teapot, teacups, cookies, brownies, stuffed animals and dolls. Steven smiled as Spinel handed him a glittery outfit. He put it on.

It was a sparkly pink suit. "Aw, I love it!" Steven smiled as Spinel giggled and slipped on a puffy pink dress. They started their tea party, drinking tea and eating sweets.

She pretended to make the stuffed animals and dolls drink the tea and eat the cookies too. Steven awed and did the same, enjoying making her feel safe and happy.

"That was fun!" Spinel said once all the tea and snacks were gone. "It sure was!" Steven added with a grin Spinel cuddled into his lap, laying her head on his chest. Steven awed and held her close to him.

"You're so sweet, little one..." He cooed softly to the pink gem who giggled playfully. She then started jumping on the bed. Steven did too, laughing a bit. "This is fun!" Spinel bounced really high up.

Steven saw and immediately got off. "Be careful Spinel!" But Spinel accidently jumped too high and missed the bed, hitting the floor. She whimpered and immediately started to cry. Steven immediately held her.

"Now, now, shhh..." He checked her over, relieved to see that she was unharmed. Spinel cried and clung to him, feeling upset that she'd fallen. Steven sat her in his lap and rocked her gently. "Shh, you're okay...I'm here little one, shhh..."

She cuddled into his chest, whimpering while Steven resumed rocking her, humming softly while stroking her hair. She calmed down after a few minutes.

Steven smiled a bit and nuzzled her gently. He was relieved that she was okay. "Why don't we do something a little safer?" He suggested as Spinel nodded. "Pillow fort?" Steven grinned. "That's a great idea!"

The duo made a big pillow fort with blankets, pillows and plushies. Spinel squealed and laughed as Steven crawled inside it with her. "It's comfy in here!"

Steven smiled. "It is!" Spinel cuddled up to him again so he held her in his lap and let her cling to him. They spent the rest of that day having fun, cuddling and playing.

After a day, Spinel came out of her littlespace, turning back to normal, physically and emotionally. "That was really nice Steven, it helped me feel much more calm!" Spinel cheered happily.

Steven grinned and hugged her. "That's great!" He was ecstatic that he'd helped her. "I don't feel so anxious anymore either, Steven, you're the best!" Spinel smiled.

Steven awed. "Thanks, Spinel." She wrapped her arms around him and he hugged back. This was just what he needed too, just a fun, calm day with his friend.

And some quality stress relief.
