Summary: Ruby gets angry, which causes her to regress. Garnet splits as a result and Sapphire takes care of them! 

I headcannon Ruby as using she/they pronouns so I'm gonna use that here! 

Ruby's little age is 3!

Garnet hummed softly as she read the novel in front of her. Ages ago, Greg introduced her to books. The gem couldn't get enough of them. The book she was reading was about a couple going through a breakup. 

The couple fought a lot and were rude to each other. As Garnet read, she could sense her anger rising. It took a lot to anger Garnet. For some reason, the book was triggering her anger.  Garnet's anger came from Ruby. 

The tall gem sighed and put the book down. Her fists were clenched tight. She could feel part of her growing fuzzy. A sign that she waa going to split into Ruby and Sapphire. It wasn't a good sign. 

Suddenly, it happened. Ruby and Sapphire replaced Garnet. Ruby growled in anger. The floor beneath their feet engulfed with flames due to Ruby's Pyrokinesis. When she was angry, she could set things on fire.

Sapphire was spared from the intense heat and flames due to her cyyokinesis. She can lower the temperature around her surroundings. Her power cooled Ruby's flames and temper a bit. 

"My love, what's wrong...?" Sapphire spoke softly to Ruby. The red gem was no longer burning the carpet, but still appeared angry. Her fists were tightly clenched and she was shaking. 

"T-The book! Nu wike it, mama! Angy!" Ruby yelled. They had involuntarily regressed. When she regressed, Ruby would call Sapphire Mama. Sapphire thought it was adorable to say the least. 

The blue gem could see that her partner was angry, but why? Sapphire sat down. "Come to mama, please, darling." Her voice was gentle and calming. Ruby huffed and sat on Sapphire's lap. 

"What has gotten you so upset, little one...?"  Sapphire asked her gently. Ruby sighed. "The book, mama...it was about lovers fighting...nu wike it..." Her anger was diffusing, replacing itself with sadness. 

Sapphire understood pretty quick. "You became upset because you worry that we'll one day fight and break up?" They nodded with teary eyes. "Mhm..." Sapphire wrapped her arms around her. 

The little one was having trouble communicating. It happened sometimes, whether she was little or not. It got worse when she was anxious. Sapphire slowly rubbed her little's back, to calm her. 

Little Ruby then started to cry overwhelmed with emotions. She clung to her mama and whimpered, mumbling incoherent sentences. Sapphire held them gently and rocked her, trying to soothe them. 

"Oh, my dear Ruby...my little sweetheart, that will not happen..." Sapphire cooed. She remembered the day and the Keystone Motel and held her little closer to her chest, humming a soft lullaby. 

Ruby soon calmed down, soothed by the soft song. "You pwomise?" Ruby asked softly, wiping her eyes. "I promise, love...I can see the future, and I see no vision of us breaking up..." Sapphire smiled. 

Ruby smiled a bit. "Gwood..I wuv you, mama..." She hugged Sapphire tightly. Sapphire smiled and stroked their hair. "I love you more, my little firefly...I am sorry the book upset you." 

Sapphire grabbed a box. It was full of littlespace items. There was a red pacifier with a ruby gem on it, a red fluffy baby blanket with kittens on it. There was also a soft plush kitten. 

Ruby sucked on the pacifier and clutched the plushie and blanket to her chest, snuggling it. "Mama, I'm sowwy I got angy..." Sapphire cuddled her close. "It's alright, my lil red..." 

Ruby had anxiety which sometimes led to her becoming angry. She used littlespace to cope with her anger and anxiety, as well as things they have happened in the past. 

The two cuddled together happily. "Mama, can you do the freezy thing? Please?" Sapphire had the ability to form ice and feels things by lowering her body temperature. Ruby found it cool when they were regressed. 

"Of course." Sapphire smield. She levitated over to the other side of the room and grabbed a pillow. She then concentrated and froze it. Ruby watched in amazement and clapped her hands.  

"Yay!" The little red gem giggled. It was rare that she was this passive. Sapphire was happy to see them looking so calm and happy. Ruby then held Sapphire protectively and smiled. 

She could be pretty overprotective of Sapphire and other people she cared about. She could also be very affectionate and loving, but also passionate and short tempered. Sapphire could always help her calm down though. 

 A few minutes later, Sapphire was reading to her little as she made sure that it was a happy story. Ruby loved it! As long as there was no talk of breakups or anything like that. Sapphire loved making her little one happy. 

Once the story was done, little Ruby turned her attention to something else. A guitar. She wadded over to it and started to play. Greg had taught her how eyes ago, and she was really good. She picked it up fast. 

Sapphire listened to the music and hummed happily. Ruby giggled and started go dance and sing. Sapphire's joined in, laughing. Ruby made a few mistakes here and there, but it was still perfect. 

The two danced and sang together, truly happy. And, Ruby was no longer upset. She threw her arms around Sapphire. "My mama!" She said protectively. Sapphire smiled and cuddled them close to her. 

"Always, my lil' red..."
