Lewis was the one standing at the door. Shawn had no time to introduce himself or stumble awkwardly. He asked him if he knew where they were keeping Niall and they got in the car. Shawn texted Doctor Zee to come by, too and they promised to Uber by since, as luck would have it, their shift wasn't going to carry on too much longer. When Shawn got there, he resisted the urge to yell for Niall but that was alright because Lewis and Camila did so, instead.
Niall's eyes met Shawn's first and he winced when the sight of him made the man start crying almost instantly. He'd gotten beaten up really badly, although the Lorenzo guy probably had it worse since he used a club and all. It made him crack a smile, wrong move both because he had a busted lip and because he was meant to be remorseful, the dumbass. Shawn reached through the bars and shoved him, then pulled him closer by the collar and hugged him the best he could past the metal. "What the fuck did you do, Niall?! God I should've known... I should've paid more attention, none of this would have happened if I'd just-"
"No. Stop. It's not your fault. I literally planned to do it on the same day you had the counselling so you would be too distracted. I didn't want you noticing and talking me out of it."
"You don't know how rich Lorenzo is, do you...? You stupid, stupid, stupid man! Goddammit, Horan!" Lewis hadn't actually seen Shawn get so loud since the little time they'd known each other. He'd been barely keeping himself together in the car but it seemed seeing Niall was the final straw. "I hate you... God, I hate you."
"I'm sorry, Shawn. But I just... I had to. I fucking had to."
"NO YOU DIDN'T! SHUT THE FUCK UP, THIS MAN COULD HAVE YOU KILLED IF HE WANTED, DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?! You're the dumbest person I've ever met... And all this because of me-"
"Don't even dare. You're doing great right now, Shawn. Don't let this set you back. What happened wasn't your fault and you know it."
"Yeah. Exactly. It was mine." Camila walked closer, eyeing Niall's bruises. His men had done a number on him. All this was on her and she hung her head, remorseful for the first time since Niall had met her. She'd never really done anything but yell at him. "I'm so sorry, Niall. And Shawn... I can never be sorry enough. I knew he was a little forward but I never, ever knew he could do this."
"How forward are we talking here? Cos I can't have my client being disturbed all the time by your psycho ex... No offence."
"None taken, Lewis. That's what he is," she said with a forced laugh. "And... Umm... Well, considering I've spent the last few days looking for a place to travel to so I can make sure Shawn is safe, then yeah. Yeah. He's kinda dangerous."
"Then why would you even-"
"I didn't know at first and I needed the money. Or well... I could tell there was something off but ignored the red flags because I had money. Yeah. A mix of both, really. I'm... I'm so sorry, you guys. I can't ever make up for this and I know it, I'm just... Fuck."
"It's fine. Lewis, tell everyone I'm fine. I bet some of them are already trying to arrange flight tickets by now, the idiots. Just... Tell them I'm going to be alright. And see what you can do about bail money if we even need that-"
"Shawn?! Came as soon as I heard and... Umm... Why are we at a police station?" They mumbled awkwardly, looking at the number of people in the room. Despite everything, Lewis and Niall laughed a bit, Camila still looking absolutely gutted with guilt while Shawn rose to his feet and gave them a hug.
"Hi, Zee. Sorry to bother you. I hope this isn't too much to ask. I'm sorry, I panicked... Can you just check for internal bleeding and stuff?" She nodded slowly, assuring him it was fine and moved closer to Niall, a little taken aback.
