"Is that a hickey?"
"I..."
"Jesus Christ, Shawn. What the fuck are you doing? There's such a thing as the word no."
"What if... I don't... Want him to stop?"
"Oh, baby." She sent him a look he'd always hated. That 'I know something you don't' older sister look. Sure, he was younger, had been raised more conservatively and was definitely the more naive of the two but it didn't mean he liked feeling like dumb.
"What's she doing here?" Niall had smiled the moment he saw Shawn and made a beeline for him, stopping when he saw her. "Not that it isn't lovely to see you, Camila-"
"Nice save." He stuck his tongue out at her and took a few steps to be near his roommate, grabbing his hands so he could quietly gaze at his fingers. He looked up and sent him a smile, still floored by how easy it was to make him flush. Why the hell was Camila there, anyway? She was encroaching upon their bubble.
"It's me and Shawn's time. We always stick together in mornings. And at night. And in-between. I can pencil you in for five minutes, come back in the afternoon-"
"You are so fucked. You do realise the role he has in this musical, right? There's a woman he's going to be touching and kissing and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it." Niall stared at her for a beat, then forced a smile, muttering that he'd forgotten to do something and leaving the best friends to themselves.
"Why thank you, Cam. Can always count on you to add fuel to any fire I want to put out. It was his birthday yesterday, why are you doing this-"
"He kissed you. No long-awaited declaration of love, no begging on his knees for you to be his boyfriend. He just... Kissed you. It doesn't sit right with me. Whether he knows it or not, Shawn, you're getting hurt-"
"No, I missed him. All he did was ask but I made the move." She looked a little stunned. When they texted about it he hadn't expected her to come to the house to upset Niall as quickly as she could. He'd been really happy to tell her about it. "I'm fine, Camila, really I am. I know he doesn't like me. And I'm... Getting over it. Let's just leave it that way. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go clear up your mess."
"All I told him was the truth. It's not a big deal, anyway." Shawn repeated these words to Niall. And as expected, Niall didn't agree with his opinion.
"What the fuck do you mean, it's not a big deal?! You're practically having sex with her! I... What the fuck?!"
"It's not sex. Okay? Honestly. I just throw her on the bed, take off my shirt and make out with her, that's the end of the scene." His eyes narrowed. Before Shawn could say anything, he'd gripped his waist and pushed him into the mattress. Shawn tried to get up, choking on his speech when Niall slipped his shirt off and got on top of him.
"Not a big deal, huh...?"
"Niall..."
"Tell me, Shawn, is this a big deal or no?"
"N-Ni, I-" He whimpered when Niall attacked his neck again, clutching his shirt. Stuck between pushing him away and wanting him closer. He was such a panicked mess that he ended up blurting out "CAMILA?!"
"Y- what the fuck?!"
"We... Uh... Have to... Go help her... Cool neighbour friend... With her umm... Cat. Bye." Niall laughed away at them, enamoured by Shawn's flushed cheeks. It reminded him of yesterday, actually. Yesterday. Best birthday ever, he thought with a huge smile, flopping on his bed. He found himself getting giddy just thinking about it and forced it all away, deciding he would go and do some work at the gym.
