Shawn woke up disoriented in Niall's bed after barely sleeping that night. His senses went on alert as he scoured the room, terrified what happened that nightmarish day would repeat itself. He saw it every time he let his mind wander so he simply resolved to stop letting his mind wander. To stay as distracted as possible.
He'd nodded off late once his body gave up the futile fight against sleep. Niall was already awake and had been up for some time, getting ready for the day. He had planned to work hard at the golf course and send Lewis pictures to try and make up for missing their flight. Lewis was so mad at him he got on the plane and hadn't contacted him since, the usual text to get his ass up included. Still, he threw his plans right out of the window when Shawn walked out of his room, rubbing his eyes with a look on his face that pained Niall.
He looked like a frightened child. He had never wanted to hug someone so much. Taking a slow step forward, Niall took a sip of his coffee and tilted his head to the side.
"Mornin'. Would you like some?" Shawn sniffed it and recoiled immediately, smiling when Niall chuckled a bit. It then occurred to him that coffee was the key to avoiding sleep and he decided he would have to acquaint himself to the bitter taste, giving a small nod. Niall nodded back and Shawn was absolutely floored by his kindness.
"Thank you, Niall." His voice was a lot stronger. That was good. It was nearly back to normal but he could hear some gravel hoarseness from what must have been a lot of screaming still. He was also slow and hesitant with his words, as though scared to speak. Hopefully he would ease up more as the days went by because Niall didn't plan to let him go live on his own until his arm was healed. It would be unfortunate if Shawn felt uncomfortable the entire time.
"I'll make breakfast. You've got medicine to take, anyway. Are you in any pain?" Shawn shook his head but again, he hesitated. Truth be told, the pain wasn't too much. What he was really dreading was when he would inevitably use the restroom. Anxiety of taking a shit in Niall Horan's apartment aside, he'd done a little research while forcing himself to stay awake and apparently it was going to hurt like hell with the anal fissure he had.
He remembered what the doctor said about avoiding constipation and quietly asked Niall if he could get some water from the fridge. He opened it, amazed at how stocked it was and asked for a couple of fruits, too. "Mi casa e su casa, brother. Go ahead, stop asking. You're going to be living here, remember? Consider it all yours."
"Jesus. You know I can't do that. I've bothered you enough. Honestly, I should just get back to my place..." the thought of going back alone struck Shawn to his core. He froze, holding the fridge door open as his mind took him back to the incident. Drawing out of it took a little time and by then, Niall had left the espresso machine to check on him.
"Mm? Yes, no, umm... I'm sorry. I'm okay, don't mind me."
Niall arched a brow and Shawn put on a pretty smile, wiping his eyes quickly. He wasn't fooling anyone with the act but keeping it up was the only thing that made him feel sane because that day... What that man did... It could not have happened. It simply couldn't have.
Niall asked him what he'd like for breakfast and Shawn immediately realised he'd been eating out of his time, once again. "You're dressed. You must have somewhere to be, Niall, I won't keep you."
"Nah, my manager is pissed at me right now so I'm off the hook from work for a bit. I would be getting him drunk right now so he'd forgive me but he's out of the country and it's harder to get through to him when the bastard can just ignore my calls and texts. Don't know why I pay him, really, cos I'm pretty sure as the star I should be the one who throws tantrums."
