Rejection in One Shot

It was a chilly night. A man sitting alone on a table meant for a couple. A face with a sigh of boredom mixed with jealousy to the other tables while fiddling on the start menu, that man was Kim Taehyung.

He's not supposed to be by himself. He expected to meet his match on an online dating app. He was so excited to meet as they were talking for almost a month and he felt that there might be something between them.

The person offered to meet him. He was skeptical but agreed as he want to see and talk to him personally. It felt like a fever dream as days went by going to the big night (in Taehyung's opinion).

Alas, the night had come. He wants to show the best version of himself. He picked the place and time. As he arrived at the place where they were supposed to meet. An unexpected outcome had foretold.

The person he thought he might have a chance is betrothed to another. It seems that the person knew that he was there watching as they leave. A few drops of tear fell from his eyes.

"Pathetic" as he walks out a bit and sat on a bench. He felt dumb thinking, he could have another shot at love. He almost crumpled the reservation ticket from the restaurant. He wanted to throw it but his stomach grumbled and the reservation was so expensive. So he just head to the place which was a semi-fancy restaurant.

"Mr. Kim Taehyung, a table for two?" The receptionist asks to check his reservation.

"No, it's just me, my....friend can't come due to personal circumstances," he said with a slight dissatisfaction. He was guided to his table which was meant for two and now here he is. Sitting alone watching the dishes on the start menu until someone tapped his shoulder.

He looked where he was tapped and saw someone, also a man with a smile that shines.

"Hey, are you Kim Taehyung right?" he nods as he was a bit starstruck on the guy's face.

"I was told by the receptionist that there wasn't an available table and yours is the only one that wasn't filled up on seats" he can't reply which made the person a little bit worried.

"I was hoping that since you're alone here that we can share a table and don't worry about the payment. The restaurant already paid back 50% to you" he was still silent but just nods again.

"Thanks, I know this is kind of a weird thing but I want to eat here again and I didn't have time to place a reservation early" he smiles and seated on the empty chair.

"I'm Hoseok by the way, Jung Hoseok" he offers a handshake.

"Taehyung, Kim Taehyung" he accepts the handshake.

"Nice grip and cool deep voice" he chuckled a little and made Taehyung blush a bit.

"You're pretty handsome, I might say" Taehyung was quite baffled at how smooth this guy talked as if he was flirting.

"I don't know if I'm creeped out or flattered"

"Flattery because that is the truth" Hoseok winks and blush creeped out on Taehyung's face.

"Have you already picked your order?" He said no in silence.

"May I recommend this one? This dish is their the best and my favorite" he showed the menu order. Taehyung just rolled on the person's order.

"So, how did you end up here?" Hoseok spoke.

"A mix of reality and rejection in love"

"Ouch, did your date ditch you?"

"You could say that" as Taehyung sipped on the complimentary wine drink.

"That's horrible, no person should experience that"

"Well, the world already gave it" the waiter arrived. Hoseok picked their order. Taehyung laughed a little which made Hoseok confused.

"What's funny, Mr. Kim?"

"It's just a funny thought, Mr. Jung"

"Is that thought include my handsome face?" He playfully smirked and Taehyung rolled his eyes.

"Have you seen my face?"

"Ooh, Mr. Kim is a cocky one" they laugh.

"Let's just eat"

Taehyung's night turned unexpectedly. He was happy and contented. As if he was meeting someone with whom he felt comfortable and that someone was a stranger. A stranger who brought a smile to his night. A stranger named Jung Hoseok.
