Amy hurriedly turned around to be met with a boney silhouette. The face was covered by long dark hair which was shorter on the front, while the rest of it was so long that it trailed behind the strange figure. Only the lower part of the face could be seen. A slim nose, a pair of pale lips, and almost white skin. They were wearing a white piece of cloth that ended just above their ankles, the sleeves almost completely covering their hands. There was something very offputting about them, which made a chill run up the girl's spine.
Amy started to tear up once again, unable to move because of the fear she stood stiffly in place. It was just so sporadic, it would have never crossed her mind that something like this could ever happen. Was it some kind of joke? It didn't seem like one at all, Amy had no idea what to do or say, all she could manage to do was open and close her mouth repeatedly.
Her body started violently shaking as her head became clouded with everything and nothing at the same time. The mysterious being stared at her with wonder before crossing their arms and lightly hugging themselves, averting their gaze to the side.
"I'm... s-sorry."
Amy was shaken out of her state by these words.
'Sorry..?'
She looked at the uncomfortable-looking person as she finally identified it. It was as if a switch turned up in her head, and now all that she could think about was the matter of the mysterious individual.
'It's a human, right? Who are they? What are they doing here?' she pondered.
"Are you...okay?" was what she finally achieved to stutter out.
The other looked at her intrigued. It's been so long since they saw someone, at this point they weren't even sure other humans existed. But even so, why would they specifically ask this question? Their arms unfolded and instead, they started fondling one of the white, tattered sleeves with their pale hands.
"I don't kno-know" the individual responded, their throat being all rough, making it difficult to speak. Just with these few attempts at talking it started to burn, but they ignored it regardless of the pain.
"You...don't know?" Amy asked cluelessly. She inspected the figure before her, still not sure what the stranger meant. Now that she looked at them, it seemed like they were taller than her as well, even if it wasn't that much, the difference was quite noticeable. That also led her to the thought of them being a similar age, but she still couldn't be sure.
"Well then," she gathered the courage to speak again "What's your name?"
"My...name?" the person asked slightly tilting their head in thought. After a moment of silence, they replied "I do-don't remember..."
"You don't remember..?"
The stranger shook their head no. They proceeded to look at the ground instead, avoiding the concerned and confused stare of the other. All Amy could do was wonder, what happened?
She observed the person, contemplating what to do or ask next. How could someone forget their name? It was a mystery, just how is that even possible?
"How long have you been in this forest?" she decided to ask.
"Since the beginning" they replied almost instantly.
'From the beginning..? What does that mean?'
"What do you mean by that?" she asked again.
The stranger just looked at her in silence. No answer.
Amy gulped 'Why is this person so strange? It's as if they had a massive memory loss or something, but even so, they're just so weird.'
The teen tried to think of something to make it less awkward, to make the other open up more, and for them to be more comfortable with her. Suddenly, she recalled the thing this person has asked her at first.
"Oh, right! I'm Amy, Amy Smith" she said quickly. Her cheeks were now dusted a light pink shade from embarrassment as she fiddled with a part of her hair. She was in so much shock earlier, that she completely forgot what happened before she spoke up to this person.
The now startled individual observed her with curiosity. The sudden outburst of energy was a major shock for them since the girl seemed quite composed just a while ago. It was a very strange experience, it felt as if a burning sensation started forming on their body from intense sunlight, but instead of hitting their skin, it was warming up their insides.
Although the strange and unfamiliar feeling appeared for a split second, it disappeared once again, leaving only a slight tickle of warmth.
"Amy...Smith..?"
The girl in question turned her attention back to the stranger before smiling fondly.
"Yeah! That's me!"
She was no longer afraid, it was still a bit spooky and their appearance did not help, since all it reminded Amy of was a character from one of the horror movies. She despised those movies ever since she first watched one with her parents when she was younger. After that experience, she used to often have nightmares of the main freaky characters, sometimes even becoming paranoid in similar, unusual settings. But overall, it didn't matter right now. What was important is the fact that this person didn't seem to have bad intentions. It almost seemed as if the other was just as confused as her, or possibly even more, which didn't surprise her.
After all, who normal goes so deep into a forest? All of the paths were cut short or led into a circle and back to the entering point. She sometimes went off the paths to explore and satisfy her curiosity, but never dared to go as far as to lose sight of them. It was also really dark here which was the opposite of today's sunny blue skies that were slightly covered by branches by the paths.
She was unfamiliar with this place and even the thought of it being a completely different location made sense. But after looking around and gathering her thoughts, she concluded that it might be just the deeper part of the forest. Well, at least that's what she hoped is the case here.
Amy turned her attention once again back to the person staring at her with anticipation. She scolded herself mentally for not paying attention to them. What a way to make someone 'comfortable'.
"So...um, do you know where we are..?" she asked cautiously.
The stranger lowered their head before turning around.
"Follow me."
Amy looked at them surprised as they started walking away. She immediately followed after the strange individual with a quickened pace to catch up.
'There's no way I'll get lost again..!'
