The two stayed like that for a good minute, before Amy let go of their wrist with a blush. She didn't even notice that she's been holding their hand all this time, it was embarrassing.
This gesture made Ghosty snap out of the haze, lightly frowning upon the warmth leaving its place. They watched the girl shuffle around trying to adjust so she could be more comfortable.
"So...how was your day?" she started.
The other placed their hand against their chin in thought.
'Would it be alright to tell her?' they thought before glancing up at the girl again.
'I guess it won't hurt...'
"It...was alright. I took care of the flowers today..."
Amy immediately beamed up at the mention of plants, after all, she worked with them every weekend and loved them dearly.
"You have flowers?! That's so cool! Which species are they, could I see them maybe?"
At this point, the girl was overflowing with excitement, grabbing both of Ghosty's hands, leaving them a little bit flustered. Ghosty could swear that this person makes them feel so much. Before they felt nothing, it was as if they were the shell of the person left behind. But somehow, this teenage girl made them slowly but surely go back.
"Um...not today?" they replied.
Amy stopped what she was doing, her face once again flushing red before letting go of Ghosty.
"W-well, alright then!"
"How did your day go..?"
The teen snapped their attention back to the other, giving them a sheepish smile.
"Um, besides a fight between my classmates, nothing much..."
"A fight?"
Ghosty looked at her while tilting their head.
"Well, yeah. I don't know what it was about, but they seemed really angry."
The other nodded, glancing at the stream of water for a bit before returning their gaze to Amy who was unintentionally staring at them.
"What is your life like?" said Ghosty breaking the silence.
"Huh? Well, my life is quite uneventful" she laughed, "but I guess I can tell you about it a bit if you want."
Amy took a deep breath then looked at her friend.
"After my father's death, which was when I was eight years old, things started to get more difficult. Since our little family got cut off from the rest after my mom got pregnant with me, we only had ourselves to depend on. After she started working twice as much as before, she didn't have any time to spend at home besides Sundays, every day working from morning till night."
Ghosty was very interested while listening to the girl, after all, they knew nothing about how it all works right now and wanted to learn more about Amy as well.
"That left me to do some of the chores since she wasn't able to handle as much, but I, later on, decided to take all of them as a responsibility of mine. I started studying more to get better grades and later on to be able to continue my education, as well as to make my mom happy that she has such a smart daughter."
Amy laughed a little at that part, before continuing her story.
"When I got the hang of it all, I decided to try helping out at a flower shop as a way to earn some money to help support us as well. I'm still learning about it all, so I sometimes need the help of the other employees, and the pay isn't especially high, but it is good enough. I guess that's mostly it about me"
The other nodded before deciding on asking more.
"How do you know that your family was cut off? Why did that happen?"
Amy looked puzzled for a bit at the second question but decided to answer.
"My mom told me that when I asked her about it since others at school had other family members like aunts, uncles, grandparents..."
At that, the girl's features saddened.
"And I have no idea why that happened, maybe I wasn't supposed to be born..? I honestly don't know anymore," she laughed with a sad smile on her face.
Seeing the state their friend was in, Ghosty grabbed her shoulders and looked into her eyes.
"That's not true. You had every right to be born Amy. After all, you were the one to find me, I don't think anyone else could ever replace you..."
The girl teared up and swiftly hugged the other, quiet sobs being muffled by the shoulder she was hugging her face into. Ghosty not sure what to do hesitantly wrapped their arms around the other, snuggling a little closer to hopefully comfort Amy. They had no idea of how to deal with others' emotions, nor their own, so it was quite a surprise that it worked at all.
They both stayed like that for a good while. Ghosty was surprised at first by the gesture but learned to also enjoy it, finding comfort in the warm feeling as well as the slightly sweet scent coming from the girl.
Just now they realized how small the girl was compared to them. Sure, there wasn't that much difference between them, but it still made Ghosty notice it. Their bodies fit each other like puzzles, just as if they were made to both exist together. It made Ghosty feel even warmer inside realizing their thoughts, burying their face further into the other.
Meanwhile, Amy's face was flushed in deep red as now there were no more tears falling from her eyes. Still, she didn't push her friend away, because she enjoyed being embraced like this. It's been so long since she had someone hug her like this, or has she even been hugged this way before? The question was left unanswered as the girl focused on the other who was nuzzling her neck.
The warm breaths made her shiver which wasn't left unnoticed by the other who finally pulled back. Amy felt a little disappointed that her friend already pulled away, but it had to happen sooner or later.
