A Family Dinner

We headed downstairs, and, to my surprise mum had ordered pizzas in. Three large pepperoni specials sat on the dining room table. I cringed internally as I remembered the blood-covered pizzas provided by The Church Of Dracul when we visited. Yeah, that meal didn't exactly end well. As I recall, I ended up with a sword pointed at my throat.

Not exactly the best first impression.

On the other hand, Kian had made a great first impression on my mum. I could tell as she straight away handed him a plate piled up with pepperoni pizza. I looked at him and silently sent a thought out as I picked a plate up from the table and started piling pizza on.

Bastard. I thought, trying my hardest not to smirk.

Kian looked straight at me and grinned, his mouth already full of pizza as he sat down to eat. What a fucking pig!

We both looked up, the moment broken as my younger brother Dylan came running in from the living room to grab a plate. He ignored me completely and then stared at Kian for a moment before picking up some pizza for himself and headed back to sit in front of the TV.

I didn't know what was up, but, he never normally acted this weird around company. Odd. But, then my brother had never been exactly normal. Hey, I can't really talk - I was a werewolf with a vampire boyfriend and a massive scar on my face thanks to being shot with a silver bullet by Harry Jekyll while I had been trying to clear my name of murder.

Yeah, it sounds worse when I put it like that.

Still, it had all kind of worked out in the end. My mum believed that I'd had a bad experience with a barbed wire fence, my name was cleared, I got together with Kian and everything had pretty much gone back to normal.

I'd gone straight back to college, Kian had also signed up for the same classes as me and nothing paranormal had happened. Well, unless you count my monthly cycle. No pun intended.

Every month when the time came me and Kian would head out into the woods where he had found an abandoned hunter's shack. We had decked the shack out with all the home comforts; a PS4, TV, rugs, portable fridge... and a generator to hook them up to.

The most useful thing about the shack was its basement. It became the perfect place to lock me up while my 'wolf' side took over. There was only one way out, that led up into the main shack. No windows or other doors. No escape.

To be honest, I had actually come to like the shack. Once we had cleared out the resident mice and set it up to be a comfortable escape from everything, it really seemed to take on a life of its own. Victoria had paid a visit to cast a distraction spell around the shack so that nobody would notice us if they decided to have a walk through the woods.

I feel sorry for the poor fuckers who would get close to the shack and then suddenly remember that they had an important meeting and run off, only to forget about it when they left the area covered by the spell.

I felt less sorry for Dylan, who was just acting like a dick. Something was definitely up with him. He had not long turned twelve, but in the weeks since I had cleared my name he had been slowly acting more and more distant.

Maybe it was just a phase.

I was pretty sure there was nothing wrong with the dork. Maybe I'd have a chat with him when my parents were out at work, just to make sure.

Kian raised his eyebrows at me as Dylan left. He had tomato sauce stuck around his mouth and I had to fight the urge not to laugh at him.

"So, Kian, tell me... how did you two meet?" my mum asked, breaking the silence that had fallen while we ate.
