I had been joking when I suggested that we stick a bag over Eddie's head, tie him up and then talk to Daryll. Honest. Of course, it was the only bloody plan that any of us had managed to come up with so either way, it's what we were going with.
The plan was for Victoria to cast a blinding spell on Eddie as he walked through the door, then I would grab him and shove him into the kitchen while Michael and Victoria grabbed Daryll so we could talk to him.
Yeah, maybe it wasn't the best plan we'd ever come up with, but as we all took our positions to wait for Eddie and Daryll to arrive we were committed to it.
"I have to say, Alec, I'm feeling rather exposed here." Michael whispered as he stood just behind the front door waiting "There's no room for me to spread my wings if I need to."
"Can you please stop talking about spreading your wings!" I hissed back at him from my position by the open kitchen door "I'm trying to listen out for them!"
"Both of you shut the fuck up!" Victoria cut in "I think I can hear something coming..."
As the hallway went silent I closed my eyes and listened. Victoria was right. I heard the rumble of an engine before it stopped, then doors opening and shutting, and finally two sets of footsteps heading our way. It was them.
"Get ready." I said to Victoria "Any minute now..."
We saw the flashes of torchlights through the gaps around the doorframe, and I heard Eddie's voice clear as day.
"Shine it on the bloody floor, you idiot!" He snapped "I can't see where I'm treading."
After a minute the front door creaked open and Victoria was caught in the full glare of the torches.
"Ah, you're already here," Eddie said.
Victoria didn't answer him she just raised her hand and calmly shouted out the spell.
"Osh Macom!"
Eddie dropped to his torch, which rolled on the floor as he put his hands over his eyes in obvious pain.
"My eyes!" He screamed, "I can't see!"
I made eye contact with Daryll who just stood on the doorstep like a rabbit caught in headlights, his eyes wide in surprise.
"Grab him!" I yelled as I ran forward to pull Eddie into the house.
Daryll turned to run, but he wasn't quick enough for Michael. The front door which was hiding him from view burst into pieces and all Daryll could do was watch in horror as Michael ran through the now empty doorframe and spread his wings. In seconds Michael flew over to Daryll and lifted him up off the ground by his collar.
Damn it! He just had to bloody spread his wings, didn't he!
We were just lucky that it was dark out, or the neighbours might have seen him and we'd be in massive shit with the Council when we got back to Moonstone. I'd had more than enough experience dealing with their system of punishment. I did not want to go through all that again, at least not without Kian to back me up.
Kian.
I couldn't help but bloody worry about him as I watched Michael fly Daryll back to the front door. Victoria took his arm and led him up the hallway to the bedroom while I tried to grab hold of Eddie's legs.
"Don't fucking touch me!" Eddie yelled, "I'll kill every last fucking one of you bastards!"
Crap! The guy kicked like a fucking donkey!
"Stop bloody moving!"
Michael put his wings away and stepped through the threshold.
"Allow me." He said.
