Oh, no

"What the fuck?"

Emma swore she felt her heart stop as those words reached her ears, the realization that she had spoken that thought, and only that one, out loud. The flash of pain in his eyes was too clear as he got up and started getting dressed, the way his jaw clenched as he buttoned his pants.

"Fuck. I know it sounds bad-"

"How the fuck was it supposed to sound then?!" he snapped, turning his back to her before she could finish what she was saying.

"Sebastian, I-"

"You said yes, right?"

"Yes! But, Sebastian-"

"Did you change your mind and not tell me to stop?" he interrupted, turning back to her, his eyes telling her all she needed to know. He thought he had hurt her.

"Oh, God! Sebastian, no! That's not it at all. You did nothing wrong. I- It's me. It's all me. I said yes, and I didn't want to stop at any point. I promise." She couldn't let him think that he had done anything wrong. He hadn't. It was her.

She wanted things to stay the same way they had always been. She wanted him to be the one constant in her life, her safe place. And she had just fucked it up by giving in. For so long she had been just fine being only a friend. And then he had kissed her, and all sense left her at that moment. Her hands fisted in her hair, pulling as she curled into herself, willing the dread to go away.

"Then what is it, Emma? What's got you locked up inside your head now?" His arm wrapped around her shoulders, pulling her into him, where she could rest her head on his shoulder.

"I-I can't tell you. Things have already changed just now. I can't change things more and lose you, too. I need you. You're my safe place. I can't lose you." Her heart raced as she blurted out the words, one hand clutching his shirt, tears threatening to escape her eyes.

She couldn't tell him that she had a thing for him. She just couldn't. That would change things more than they had already just changed. The thought of losing him because he didn't feel the same was unbearable. She didn't care that he would never want her like that. She wasn't his type. But she cared about having her best friend. Above all else, he was her best friend.

"What are you talking about? There's nothing that would make me leave your side. You're my best friend. Yeah, we just had sex. Great sex, if you ask me, but that doesn't mean I'm just going to disappear. You're the jam to my peanut butter. I'm good on my own, but better when paired with you." He chuckled, pulling her closer.

"Why did you kiss me?" she asked, her heart in her stomach. She already knew the answer.

"Pentru ca te iubesc," he muttered, kissing the top of her head.

"As if I know what that means. You know I don't speak Romanian. Asshole." She laughed, poking him in the chest.

"I said you're crazy, Iubirea mea. Now put your clothes on. I can't think straight with you naked."

Her heart dropped into her stomach as she realized that she was, in fact, still naked. Emma raved to grab a shirt, at least, feeling his eyes on her the entire time. Was he seeing the stretch marks from the muscle building she'd been doing? Was he seeing the small amount of cellulite on her thighs?

She shook her head, pulling her shirt over her head before turning back to him. Heart in her throat, almost choking her, she asked the one question she needed an answer to right then.

"Will you still come lay with me until I fall asleep? If not, that's totally fine."

"Of course I will, dragă."
