Chapter 15: Double Deal

Nexus was once again rudely awoken when his door got slammed open, which made him panic and grab his gun on his bedside table and pointed it at the offender.

"What the fuck is wrong with you Ionix!? I could've shot you, did you forget that we're in a war!?" he yelled angrily at Ionix and slammed the gun back down on the small table.

"Sorry but we've got another mysterious transmission, you've got to see this!" Ionix pressured so Nexus got up and quickly went with him.

"I swear to Sanctus, if it's Caedis then I'm gonna kill myself first!" Nexus swore irritated.

"Who?" Ionix asked a bit worried.

"Many people want to kill me Ionix, many people want to kill me."

Ionix just looked at him with worry instead of answering.

When they arrived at the main room, they immediately went to the biggest monitor where the others stood.

"Ah, Nexus, you're awake. Would you please look at this? Apparently this transmission stems from an Oppressor SOS beacon." Prax informed him and made space so Nexus could take a closer look.

The message read:

"Help! We've been lost for a while and are low on sustenance! We tried contacting only our leader but got no response so now we've grown desperate and will ask help from anyone! Latitude: 31.62407, Longitude: -148.49417, Distortion: 1.38"

"Alright. So first of all, it says 'we' which means it is not a trap as usually, trap messages only describe one defenseless person.
And over all, it seems pretty legit. We should check it out but of course still be careful incase it is a trap." Nexus told the others.

"How do you know that it 'seems legit'?" Prax asked sceptically.

"A gut feeling."

Prax looked very unimpressed at Nexus.

"Someone may genuinely be in trouble and if we can help, we should. Rax, ready the medbay in case someone is injured." Onyx commanded.

"Aye sir." Rax answered.

"The others are with me and be careful when arriving at the coordinates."

"Yessir!" came the combined yelling of the crew and geared up with guns and melee weapons.

It didn't take long for once to arrive at the named coordinates with the car, which meant it also didn't take long to see two wandering people in the distance.

Onyx parked the car and everyone got out, readying their weapons.

Onyx and Nexus were at the front with the rest in the back and Rax remained at base.

The two mysterious figures also saw the group approaching but upon seeing Nexus, they completely ignored anyone else and simply ran excitedly towards him.

"Commander!!" they yelled happily in unison.

"Wait wait wait guys!!" Nexus called out while waving his hands in front of him which was futile as the two tackled him to the ground in a crushing hug.

If he didn't have his armour on, he'd probably have been squished to death..

"We finally found you commander!!" one of them exclaimed.

The Defenders just stood there and watched the whole ordeal with confusion and surprise. Since when were Oppressors so...close?

"I'm excited to see you too guys but please get off me and explain to me as to what you're doing out here?"
