After tea Keith just lazed around, while I dusted the furniture for crumbs, before the maid came.
Then, I pulled on a longer t-shirt, and I filled my bottle.
"Where are you going?" Keith asked, looking up from his phone.
"To play."
"Oh."
"You're ready for footie?"
"Totally. But, don't call it footie. Footie sounds lame."
I shrugged indifferently.
"So, on the..." I did the maths mentally. "Wednesday... On Wednesday, I'm going to my friend's house."
Keith raised his eyebrow.
"Do your parents know?"
"Yes, I asked them for permission."
"Proof that you did?"
I pulled out my phone and handed it to Keith.
"Well, you've asked them for permission, but they haven't replied. That means, you can't go."
Keith looked up at me with determination burning in his eyes, but I laughed.
"You can't dictate that."
"I can. I'm not going to let you go unless your parents say yes."
Then, right on cue my phone dings.
Ky... I'm sorry, but since we're not there, I don't think it's very wise for you to go.
You can stay home and do something with Keith instead, I'm sure he'll be free. If not, then I'm sure you'll find something to do.
But, you can't go to Naomi's.
I'm sorry."Wh-what? No..."
"What's wrong?" Keith asked, standing up.
"They said no. I can't go to Naomi's."
An apologetic look flashed across Keith's face.
"Look, I'm sorry. But, maybe it's for the best. I mean, what if something happens to you? Your parents will have to live with that strain, you know."
"But, it's not like Naomi is a stranger! I've known her almost 3 years now! You have to let me go, please!"
"It's not upto me! And if your parents have said no, I'm not letting you leave."
"You don't control that!" I shouted.
"Well, I'm not risking you getting hurt!" Keith yelled back.
"It's still not your choice!" I exclaimed, louder.
"Stop it!" Keith roared. "This is not up for discussion. Stop arguing! And stop behaving like a child! Your parents said no, I'm not letting you go. And if you sneak out, I'll tell them."
My eyes widened.
Keith could loud when he wanted to.
"I'm sorry."
"You had better be. This was a stupid tantrum. And your parents have said 'no' for a reason. Maybe you should think from their point of view next time."
And with that, Keith checked his phone (probably for the time), picked his bag up, and left, while I stood there, gaping open-mouthed.
I wonder how much burying myself would cost...?
I shuddered with embarassment.
What the heck was wrong with me?
~~~~~~
I put down my bottle and the football, and raced off to go find my cycle.
No one was down yet, so I thought I'd just burn time by, well, cycling. While I cycled, I made a lame attempt to sort out the chaos in my head.
My attempt failed, because 10 minutes later, I was still pedalling around with colliding, conflicting thoughts.
Finally, at 6, Aaron came down.
"Hey, there!"
"Hi, Aaron."
"So, deets Kylie? I think I was promised deets."
"No, you weren't. I didn't promise you any deets, because there aren't any."
"Liar. I want some deets."
"Good bye, Aaron!"
"Okay, no! Wait, Kylie."
But, I was already gone. And the next time I came back was when I was sure that everyone else was there. And my plan worked.
So, we made teams and we played, and played and played till about 8:15. Then, we decided to call it a day, and just collapsed on the stairs, that stood where we played.
Since, I wasn't in the mood to speak to anyone, I sat on the other end of the stairs. Of course, Aaron and Aiden didn't get the hint. They came and sat on the stair above me, and the stair below me.
"So, deets!" Aaron exclaimed.
"Yeah, deets. We want the tea!" Aiden agreed.
"Shut up the two of you. There are no deets, and if you want tea so badly why don't you go make some?"
"So, there's no deets?" Aiden asked.
"N-" Aaron cut me off.
"If there aren't any deets, why is Keith coming this way looking like a man on a mission?"
"I don't know! Probably because he wants to talk to one of you?"
Well, I wish that was true. Unfortunately, Keith bypassed the group of boys on the stairs, and walked straight towards... Yeah, you probably guessed it.
Me.
Keith stuck his hand out.
"Keys, please!"
I looked up at him.
"What?"
"I know, I know. The plan was supposed to be that I go up to my place, shower and then come back down to yours, and we'd spend the night there, but because of the drama in the evening, I left my keys at your place, and now I have no way to get into my house."
A smack was heard as my hand made a connection with my head.
I also wanted to smack Keith, but since I was supposed to be a nice person, I just groaned really loudly and handed my keys to Keith.
"Give them back once you're done unlocking my door."
"Nah, I'll come down. I won't take too long to shower."
"Fine, whatever. Just go, hurry!"
Keith grinned at me and left, leaving me once again, staring open-mouthedly after him.
In a single monologue, he'd managed to undo all my hard work, convincing Aaron and Aiden that something was in fact going on.
"So, I'll uh... I think I'll take my leave now... I hear my cycle calling my name." I said, standing up.
"Oh, no. No no no." Aaron smirked at me and grabbed my hand pulling me back down.
"We deserve some tea after being lied to, missy!"
It's official. This week, was going to be the death of me.
