20. Surprise!

Keith and I partied late into the night. And like I'd wanted, we did everything.

At the end, I knew that I had actually attended the best party ever, and I enjoyed myself more than I ever could at Naomi's parties.

And the best part, was that I had someone to share the memories with, plus the fact that that someone was Keith made everything infinitely better.

It was safe to say that Keith and I were both exhausted the next day.

Especially Keith.

Because when I woke up, Keith was still asleep beside me, and it was nearly 11:30 in the morning.

I let Keith sleep, and snuck out of bed as quietly as I could. We'd told Teresa not to come for breakfast, and instead, she should just come straight for lunch. She agreed, and promised to be there by 12.

So, I still had half an hour to wait if I wanted food.

I brushed my teeth, and washed up in Keith's bathroom, before I changed into some more presentable clothes, and hand-combed my hair.

But then, at about 11:45, the bell rang.

I rushed over to the door to see who it was, and it was fair to say I kinda forgot how to speak.

"Hey, Kylie! We were hoping you were home. Or we'd have to dig our keys out of our bags."

Keith's parents were home.

I smiled widely as I helped Mr. and Mrs. Hayes get their luggage into the house.

"So, how was your holiday?" I asked, hating the silence that had settled all over.

Mrs. Hayes turned to me with the biggest smile on her face.

"It was fantastic! We really enjoyed ourselves. What about you guys? Anything interesting happen?" She smirked in teasing way.

I felt my cheeks turn as red a possible.

"It was good. We- we enjoyed ourselves, too."

"Hey, is that a new phone cover?" Mr. Hayes asked me, pointing to my phone which lay face down on the dining table.

I smiled faintly as I picked it up.

"Yep, Keith got it for me. I'd seen it at the shop but, I couldn't get it. But then Keith saw that, and kinda just got it for me."

Mr. Hayes raised an eyebrow.

"Wow, who knew my son could be so... Chivalrous?"

"Hey, I can be plenty chivalrous when I want to." A new voice said from the doorway.

We all looked at Keith.

"Good morning, Kylie! Hey, mum. Hey, dad!"

He strolled forward and wrapped them in a hug. Suddenly, it felt like I was interrupting, that was until Keith pulled me towards them and wrapped me up as well.

Then, everyone pulled away, and Mr. Hayes busied himself with taking the suitcases in, while Keith's mum pulled the two of us towards the couch for questioning.

~~~~~~
She got everything out of us.
Every.
Last.
Drop.
Of.
Juicy.
Gossip.
And even what wasn't juicy, but who cares about that stuff?
And well, she... I'm not sure how this is gonna sound, but she literally started jumping up and down clapping her hands, while Keith tried to sink into the cushions and I just blinked, trying to wrap my head around the entire thing.
Then Mr. Hayes came out, because he heard all the commotion and he too began to celebrate. His form of celebration, however (a horribly failed floss) had Keith looking like he wanted to die then and there.
I had let go, and had joined Mr. And Mrs. Hayes in their colourful celebrations.
I flossed with Mr. Hayes, and I danced with Mrs. Hayes, and Keith just looked shocked that I had the guts to do it.
But eventually, he smiled as well, and he joined us.
And for a brief time, I felt like I could burst from happiness.
Until all the colours dried up and all I felt was numb.
