I buried my hands deep inside my shelf, and pulled all my clothes out onto the floor, when suddenly, a jarring thought occured to me.
My mum wasn't here to give me any fashion tips.
And as much as it embarassed me, I had no clue how to dress up!
I took deep breath before I started panicking, and went into emergency mode... i.e., I grabbed the first clothes I found, and laid them out on my bed.
A silver jacket, a white t-shirt, and a black leather skirt!
Hey, I did well here!
Excited with my choice of clothes, I ran to the bathroom to clean up and get changed.
~~~~~~
I walked into the living room to find Keith staring out of the huge French windows, with his hands behind his back.
"Ready, already?" He asked, surprised.
"Yep!" My stomach rumbled. "But, I'm hungry..."
Keith turned around, and his eyes widened.
"Uhh, you look..."
Suddenly, I felt self-concious.
"Bad? Should I change?"
"What? Oh no no! You look great! You look stunning. I swear, don't change, you're perfect this way."
I felt my face heat up, and deep down, I had a feeling that Keith wasn't just talking about my clothing choices. The thought of that warmed me to my core.
"Thank you." I mumbled timidly.
Keith seemed to get a grip on himself, as he winked at me.
"So, I think my cook should have come by now. Want to go up for breakfast?"
My stomach rumbled again.
"Oh, yes please! I'm famished."
Keith grinned at me as he and I grabbed our phones and keys, and walked out.
~~~~~~
"Okay, those were the best pancakes I have ever tasted. You did great, Teresa!"
Teresa, Keith's shy, mild little cook smiled and blushed at my compliment, and thanked me quietly. Then, she took her leave, and promised to be back for lunch.
"Hey, actually about that... We're not going to be here for lunch, Teresa."
"Oh. Well that isn't an issue. I'll see you at dinner then?"
Keith and I nodded, and Teresa smiled.
"Okay, I'll see you two later then. Bye!"
"Bye, Teresa!"
The door closed quietly, and then there was just me and Keith.
"You're going to go get ready?"
"Hmm? Yeah." Keith stood up and walked off to go get ready.
~~~~~~
When Keith came back out, I was on my phone, having a heated chat war with Aaron.
"What are you smiling at?" Keith asked.
"Aaron. We're having an argument."
Aaron's chat dinged.
Yeah? You think you're so talented? Well, what about this:
I'd tell you you were beautiful, but that would be an understatement.Ooh! That one was good! But I can think of better:
People say smiles are worth as much as a million dollars, but your smile is priceless.Okay, well you got me there... How the hell are you so good with these?!
I laughed out loud.
I don't know. I just am. It comes as naturally to me as breathing does.
Aww, my best friend is a hopeless romantic...
🙄
Don't be annoying.🙄🙄
If I'm not going to be annoying, then who will?I will. I'll annoy you!
Haha, fat chance.
Doubt me?😈😈
Ahhh, nope. Don't worry! No doubt from this side! Might want to check Aiden's side though... Thought I saw some doubt there...
😂😂
That's what I thought.
Anyways, adios.
Have to take my leave.Cool, see ya!
Bye!
I locked my phone and set it aside before looking up to find Keith examining me, weirdly.
"What?" I asked him, slightly miffed.
"Your face. Why are you so... Red?"
"What?"
"Who were you talking to?"
"Aaron." I answered without hesitation.
"So, early in the morning? Doesn't he have anything else to do?"
"Uh, don't you have anything better to do, than question me?"
"Not really, no. Why are you two so close, anyways?"
"What's it to you?"
"Everything."
I blinked at Keith's response. This was getting tense.
"Stop, Keith. Please, just stop."
"No, I'm not going to stop. Why are the two of you so close? And like this? It's seems like you guys are in a relationship!"
"Keith..." I warned.
"No. Answer me, why?"
I snapped.
"Because, there was no one else I could rely on!" I yelled. "After you left, and I stopped existing to you, Aaron and Aiden picked me off the ground even though they didn't know it. They because my closest friends. They replaced you."
My eyes widened as I realised what I'd said.
"No.. Keith, I didn't mean it like that I swear... I-"
"No, Kylie. Forget it, you're right. I screwed up. Any decent human being wouldn't keep reminding me of that, but apparently, you aren't one."
Smack.
My hand connected with Keith's face.
"Don't. You. Bloody. Dare. I waited for you! Every damn day! I cried, and I shed tears over you! Every day! I missed you so much it hurt! You don't get to call me an indecent human being when you didn't even try to make an effort. You never so much as looked at me, Keith. So, I'm sorry I moved on! I'm sorry I couldn't take the pain of being forgotten anymore, and I am truly truly sorry that I tried to find a replacement for you. But you know what I'm sorriest about, Keith?"
Keith looked at me, questioningly.
"That I never did. I never found a replacement for you, and I know I never will. Why? Because there's a Keith sized and shaped whole in my head and heart for everytime you picked me up when I fell. You were my best friend, Keith. I'd have taken a bullet and a knife for you. I just don't know if you felt the same."
Silence elapsed around us, and that's all the answer I needed.
"I knew it. Forget it, Keith. Let's just get out of here."
