With Christmas only two days away, Anne decided to go to the General Store in Carmody, with Diana. After lunch, Anne was simply helping Marilla in the kitchen, when it hit her everything seemed to be falling into place. She has found that, although the routines may have changed, and the people may have changed, and the broom was not where it was before, everything still felt the same. The water with soap on her hands as she washed the dishes, the satin bow in her hair, the smell of Prejudice's warm milk in the morning - even after Matthew sold Pride, - all the feelings and sensations were quite the same. Every little detail still bore the same exact importance as before she went off to Queens.

Not too many moments passed when Bash arrived at Green Gables, the horse's hooves could be heard from the kitchen and Jerry ran to open the front gate. Although Jerry has grown in size and education, it feels like he's not quite aware that he's so towering. He almost hits his head on the doorframes every time he passes through them and has proven to be clumsier than Anne herself. He behaves as if he was still that itty bitty boy that came to us at the tender age of 11. Now he's 14, only two years younger that Anne, and yet so much taller.

Marilla, cleaning her hands to her apron, looked at Bash while he entered the kitchen holding Delly.

— Afternoon, Bash, we weren't expecting you! - said Marilla, puzzled by the visit. - Give me my sweet Delphine.
— I apologize for intruding, Marilla. Hello, Anne. I would highly appreciate if you could take Delly for the rest of the day and tomorrow as well.

Anne looked at Bash for a moment or two. She let his concerned eyes pierce the room and wondered asking what was happening. Was Gilbert Blythe alright? Was anyone else in the house sick, like Mary had once been? Mary. The nostalgia was overwhelming thinking about her. Her dark skin and dashing smile no longer wandered the kitchen, teaching Anne all her recipes and making everything seem so much more fun.

— Oh well, of course we can take her! - Marilla said with a smile.
— Has something happened, Sebastian? - said Anne, no longer containing her immense curiosity.
— Oh, things are just fine. I have to go the Bog, you see, to handle some of Mary's belongings. Gilbert has offered to come with me and Elijah, and my mother wanted to come as well, so she can feed us properly. That's what she said, if you can believe it!

The air was suddenly lighter, worry has cleared from the kitchen, Gilbert Blythe was alright.

Elijah was doing better. He was two years older than Anne, the same age as Gilbert. He has been working on the farm and helping with Delphine most of the time and when he's not doing that, he volunteers at the Church in any way he can. Rachel Lynde was the one who suggested this and as much as we hate telling her she's right, she positively has been so a great deal of times. Marilla had told Anne all this just this morning during breakfast, and even she looked enchanted by Elijah's new found charms and dedication to the community of Avonlea.

When Anne was finally ready to leave for town, Marilla was running around the kitchen, making sure she had everything Delly might need for this afternoon away from home. Marilla was visibly worried about the entire situation, the last time she took Delly to Carmody there was such a fuss and such mean words were spoken, all because of Delly's skin color. What an incredibly horrible thing. Anne couldn't grasp the thought that it was possible for people to display such a barbaric act towards an innocent baby, to exhibit such contemptible ignorance. She was certainly ready to make a fuss herself, if the situation arose.
