Chapter 10: Nightmares
I was wandering in the Realm; Lexi was in front of me chained to the extremely light pink wall that never seemed to end. Right next to her was a man who looked to be about 24-27 max. He had short brown hair and a creepy grin plastered on his face, just like Morpheus had.
“Lexi?” I called to the blonde girl who looked a lot like Alex. She nodded, swinging herself back and forth in the chains that kept her bonded to the wall.
“Who are you?” I practically growled at the stranger, taking one step toward him. He just chuckled at me, crossing his arms over his chest.
“I’m little Lexi’s captor, hired by Morpheus.” He shot back; I could hear the attitude leaking through his voice. My eyes narrowed; I should’ve known He had put someone up to this.
“Release her.” I commanded, my hand stretched out in front of me as if to harm him if he didn’t obey.
“Not a chance.” He retorted, shifting his weight as if anticipating my next move. My glance flew from Lexi to her captor for a few moments, strategizing my plan in my head.
Suddenly, it hit me. This is MY dream; I can do whatever I want. He may be a Dream walker too, but I control my Dream better than him. Or… Was it real? To which the answer was, I couldn’t decide.
I felt a smirk fall across my face as I went for the old fashion way of battle- swords. I projected my sword into my hands; it was a long silver shaft, gleaming in the natural light of the dream. The handle was a metallic blue which contrasted nicely with the shining blade. He had gotten the same idea, projecting his own golden sword into his hands and readying for battle. Lucky for me, I took a few fencing classes.
“On guard.” I whispered, running at him and sliding onto my knees across the ground, ducking from his predictable attack; everyone knows the amateurs go for the head first. I held my sword out in front of me, leaning back as I slid right through his legs and drove the blade into his stomach, but making sure to pull it with me as I passed the man.
Her captor crunched over in pain, blood dripping out of the wound I had delivered on my first hit. I gave myself the once over, checking for any cuts or scratches. Nothing at all. My sword’s blade gleamed with a coating of dark crimson across the entire blade from the man’s wound; I glanced behind me to see that he was still on the ground. I smirked to myself, walking over toward him and kicking him in the side – and for good measure- driving the blade down into the small of his back. He fell slack against my sword, his body dropping limply to the pristine white flooring. I yanked my sword out, kicking the man once more to make sure he was dead. His body was unresponsive, except for the blood that ran freely from the gash in his torso. That was almost too easy… Oh well.
I hurried over toward Lexi, my sword in hand as I examined the chains.
“Thank you so much, Destinee.” She said to me as I began to slash the chains down from the wall with my sword.
“Wait, how do you know my name?” I asked her, backing up from her as she yanked her other arms away from the chains. Something wasn’t right …
I jerked awake, taking in the dark room and all of its familiar features; the strewn clothes, pizza boxes, open closet, junk all over the floor. I turned my head to see Alex sleeping soundly next to me, his arms spread apart like he was holding something in his sleep. I suppose that’s where I was lying moments before.
I glanced at the clock. The bright red numbers flashed 12:44 at me. I heaved a small, quiet sigh and scratched the back of my head, nudging Alex awake with my other arm. He grumbled something, flipping himself over in the bed to face the wall. I just grinned; this was the routine every morning. I would wake him up and he would turn away from me and fall back asleep for another ten minutes until I kissed him good morning. I feigned annoyance, knowing he was awake. Turning Alex’s head toward me I placed a light kiss on his lips. He smiled at me as I pulled away and flipped himself back toward me.
