Chapter 7: Apologies

It’s finally sixth period, and I’ve made it the whole day without talking to Alex- beside the mix up at the entrance of the school-I listened as the bell rang around the entire building, freeing us from this hell hole.

I made my way to my locker, kicking the bottom of the metal door open with the toe of my boot. I shoved my books and folders into the top of my locker and slammed it shut, pulling my bag onto my shoulder and walking toward the doors. The hallways were almost all empty… How odd. I pushed open one of the large doors with my shoulder, taking a step outside onto the pavement.

I felt my eyes bulge as I glanced around the outside of the school; kids were in a giant circle around the main doors, encircling me to the school… And of course Alex was standing in the middle, waiting for me. I took a deep breath, resting a hand on my bag and walked down the steps to Alex.

“What do you want now?” I asked him, surprised at the sound of my own voice. It was flat and icy.

“I want you to hear me out.” He pleaded to me; his eyes were soft and caring as they watched me halt before him. Narrowing my own eyes to slits, I pondered for a moment; should I trust him after he cheated on me with the biggest whore in the school? I think not.

“Fine.” I answered, crossing my arms on my chest in a snotty fashion. One of my knees was bent out, anticipating his words.

“I never slept with Rebecca, she’s a tramp. That text was a set up, she’s been trying to get with me since ninth grade. All four years I’ve resisted, why do you think I would give in to her nagging when I just found you?” He asked me, stepping forward and kneeling down on one knee. God, he looked like he was about to whip out a ring and beg me to marry him.  I placed one of my hands on my face, closing my eyes.

“I don’t know. It was a shock to me when I found out since we’re…” I didn’t have to finish for him to understand what I meant; since we were soul mates I took it as a shock that he would be sleeping with another girl when we just found each other.

“Do you forgive me?” He asked, his voice was nothing but hope. I gazed at him for a moment, thinking it over; it did make sense that she would set something like that up after almost the whole student body watched us run out of school together. I uttered a short sigh, taking my hand off of my face and staring into his eyes.

“Please. I love you.” He begged me, His hands partially opened in front of him.

“I forgive you.” I spoke, a small smile spreading across my lips. He beamed at me which made my heart flutter, and hopped up from his knee to pull me into a giant hug. The crowd cheered around us;  It was only then that I began to notice the giant crowd circling us on the steps.

“Kiss her!” Shouted a boy from the crowd. Alex pulled away from me, gazing down at me for a moment with those amazing green eyes before crashing his lips to mine. The circle of assembly cheered wildly around us as we kissed each other.

Suddenly, we were split apart. I stumbled back a few steps before gaining back my balance and glanced up to see what had happened. Of course, number one whore was standing there in the middle of us shrieking at everyone.

“No! It wasn’t supposed to be like this!” Her shrill voice rang throughout the entire school-grounds, startling a flock of pigeons and forcing them to take off from the telephone wires.

“You weren’t supposed to forgive him you selfish son of a b-” But before she could finish that sentence, I was up in her face throwing a right hook to her cheek. She crashed back onto the cement from the impact, clutching the right side of her face. The crowd Oohed and Ahed at the unfolding fight.

“That’s for messing with my boyfriend and me.” I spat at her, taking a step toward her body which was now tightly curled into the fetal position. She flinched from my action, making me smirk. “Oh, and quit milking the pain. That punch wasn’t even that hard.” I replied, taking Alex’s hand in mine.

She immediately sat up and glared daggers at me. “This isn’t over.”

“That’s what you think.” I snorted, allowing myself to be pulled to the parking lot by my soul mate.

“Thank you for forgiving me.” He told me as we stopped near his black Lamborghini; even his car made mine look like something from the dump.

“You have nothing for me to forgive,” I told him, dragging my fingers across the shiny surface of the midnight paint cloaking his car. “It was just me overreacting. I should’ve had more trust in you.” I said, unable to look him straight in the eye. Instead I examined the weather; it was a bit chilly than usual today. The wind was whipping fallen leaves and a few pieces of rubbish around in the air.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by Alex’s voice, “You had every right to freak out, but promise me you’ll never run from me again. I was crushed.” He replied, backing me up against the hood of his car and placing his hands on my hips.

“I promise.” I responded, drawing his hands off of my waist and taking them in my own. He pulled me into one of his bear hugs, kissing the top of my head. My scalp felt tingly where his lips had touched.

“Come on, let’s go home.” He told me, opening the passenger’s door and waiting for me to get in. I happily took a seat in the million dollar car, making myself comfortable in the expensive designer leather. He shut my door for me and came around the driver’s side, getting into his own seat and revved up the engine. I watched him from the corner of my eye, a small smile graced his lips.

We pulled out of the parking lot at top speed in his Lamborghini, and I found my own self smiling as we headed home: Alex’s house.

We were both lying on his bed, the brown comforter disheveled around us seeing as we had been whacking each other with his pillows minutes before. I rested my head on his toned chest as he absentmindedly played with a strand of my light brown hair. I ran my gaze around his room; it never changes, that’s one of the things I love about it. The same clothes from a week ago were still sitting on his floor, or strewn across his dresser or furniture, there were water glasses piling up his night stand and a pizza box lying open and empty on the floor.

“Alex. We really need to clean your room sometime.” I told him, snuggling into his side. I felt his chest vibrate from laughter underneath my head “Yeah, good luck with that.”

We lie there for a while in that same position, just thinking to ourselves. Alex’s parent’s weren’t coming home tonight from the office, so we had the house to ourselves.

“Jokes!” He called out through the house. Sure enough, the large Great Dane came trotting into the room and hopped up on the bed next to us. He collapsed onto the mattress, resting his noggin on Alex’s thigh.

“I love this dog so much.” I said, pulling myself up from his chest and over to the dog, who’s tail began thumping as I reached a hand out to pet him.

“Yeah, I do too.” He told me, moving himself next to me on the bed.

I began to stroke the dog, my hand weaving itself in the glossy furs of his pelt absentmindedly. Suddenly, as if a light bulb had gone on over my head, I turned to Alex.

“Hey Alex…?” I asked, slightly reluctant. I wanted to teach Alex how to dream walk before I brought him into the realm myself, then I’d be able to save more of my energy to find Lexi.

“Yeah?” He asked, rolling onto his back and fixing his emerald gaze upon my azure.

“How do you feel about learning how to dream walk?”
