I found myself roaming the streets unnoticed, for the first time in a while. I had no emotion, I felt empty inside once the anger had left. And then I stopped in front of Matt's door. I hesitantly knocked and his mom answered.
"K-Kate? Um, now's not a good time." She stuttered. "Mom, let her in." Matt protested upon hearing my voice.
I was led to his room where he quietly stared out the window. I stared at him from behind. "My dad's in jail, he's standing trial for a murder case. The person murdered was his mistress." He spoke, not blinking once. His misery broke every last essence I had left of myself.
I didn't say anything.
"Norah." He turned to look at me. "Did you do it?" He asked, "What, me?! What makes you think I did?! How could you even accuse me of such a thing?" I gasped. The guilt drifted further and further into my subconscious. "I did tell you I wanted her gone. And you're the only one I know that might've…" "I can't believe you would even think that! Is it so hard for you to believe that it could've been your dad!" I raged, and I instantly regretted it, "Matt -" "Get out." He lowered. "Matt I didn't mean it-" "I said get out!" He yelled, the tone of his voice sending shivers down my spine.
I was left roaming the streets, trying to figure out a way to make everything better. I was losing myself, slowly and surely.
And then next thing I knew, I was in Hannah's room. It was late at night and I was standing beside her. Watching her sleep. She was sleeping so peacefully, without a worry in the world.
I envied her for having such a perfect life, for having it all. She didn't deserve it, I worked hard for just a glimpse of what she had. And it didn't even matter in the end.
Suddenly her phone rang. She quickly woke up and grabbed her phone on the bedside table. She squinted at the screen before answering.
"Matt, what's wrong?" She asked.
It was Matt, I was going to leave but I couldn't. It was Matt.
"Hold, hold on. Slow down." She continued, lifting herself up. "What? Are you sure?" She hurriedly got out of bed. "Okay, yeah. Just give me a few minutes. Matt listen to me, Norah will pay for what she's done." She ended the call.
And that did it.
Hannah and Matt were planning something, something big, something to get rid of me. I didn't deserve it! I was a good person! I am a good person! Why does nobody see that, that I'm tormented!
I showed myself to Hannah just as she turned the lights on. "Norah!" She gasped. "W-what are you, how did you…" "What are you and Matt planning, Hannah?" I asked, my body frozen to the spot. "What do you mean?" She trembled. "Don't think I don't know. I heard the call." I calmly added. "N-Norah why are you in my room?!" She hesitantly asked.
"You don't deserve Matt, don't you see? I deserve him-" "No!" She bravely yelled. "No?" I raised an eyebrow. "I know what you are and I know what you did. Matt knows it was you, you're going to pay." she tried. "Pay?" I let out a laugh. "What's so f-funny?" She asked, trying to ball up a fist. "The fact that you think that's actually true. I am a good person." I continued. "Good? You killed somebody!" She yelled.
And it hit me. Her words echoed in my head. I couldn't see straight. I killed someone. I murdered someone.
I was so far out of it that I found myself in this overwhelming darkness, and I could only hear what my soul was doing in the outside world.
"You will pay for what you did, Norah!" She continued. And I laughed. I laughed. No, the darkness, that anger within me laughed. It was so strong now, any thoughts of morality I had were gone. The darkness had taken over me now. And I could only watch.
"Never!" I yelled and my body slowly transformed into the hideous being I showed back at Lori's. "Ahhhh!" Hannah screamed the house awake. "Hannah?!" I heard shouts coming our way.
And that's when I did it. I lunged at her and the next thing I knew, I saw literal darkness again…
