For The Art That Was

This one's for the dreamers

the storytellers, the musicians

the painters, the scriptwriters

this one's for the the crossed out lines

the crumbled up pages

the erased words

for the art that was

poems that were too honest

stories that couldn't be written of as fiction

this is to climbing out of bed

on dark days,

deciding to live for you

one day at a time

this to waking up again

not knowing how long you slept

but wanting to be awake

ready for today

this is for you

deciding to be yourself

and saying, you're enough

this is to the poem you wrote for yourself

the ones that were just for you

not for anyone else to tell you they were beautiful

but powerful enough that they needed no validation

no recognition - they could be tucked in a page of your forgotten diary

and still, be your best creation

like the love you keep for you

and so this is me completing this letter

telling you, you did good

the rights and the wrongs

the good and the bad

all of it

this is me telling you how it's okay to be human

to make mistakes

and make them again

how it's okay to lose

after a winning streak

and to lose after

losing again

that it's okay

there isn't anything you can't get through

no low that you can't get up from

and challenges get difficult

things get tougher

but as long as you've got you

you're alright

so tell yourself you're proud

do it loudly and boldly

shout it off the cliff

if that's what it takes to make it convincing

and the world might seem like it's racing past

like the lights are flashing too loudly

and the rains don't mean home anymore

they bring in a feeling of dread

and that's okay

it means you're changing

you're growing

and that's alright

you'll find new things you love

and you'll let go of some

for no one's fault

it's just the way it happens love

you'll find new music you're passionate about

you'll fall out of love with music that was once peace

you're afraid of change now

but it doesn't have to be dreadful

it doesn't have to signal doom

it can be beautiful

like the clear skies

after a heavy rain

like the rainbow against the backdrop of the green mountains

like seeing your friend after years of online classes

like everything beautiful and peaceful

and it might not always make sense

but as long as you've got you

it's going to be alright
