PAIN

It strikes you and stays right there in your heart,

An unwelcomed but important guest it is that refuses to depart,

Until it has touched each and every corner of your heart ,

And then torn it apart.

You behave as if it does not matter,

It is too insignificant to even bother.

But deep inside you know the truth and experience the agony,

You know how it is taking the peace and zeal out of your body.

Tears well up in your eyes, ready to flow,

But you're determined not to let them go.

You tell yourself to be strong and brave,

But deep inside it is relief that your heart craves.

Finally, after hours of silent suffering,

Your heart ejects the pain that you are bearing.

Those tears that had waited for so long are now there in your eyes,

Now all you want is to have a few, long cries.

It now hurts like a fresh and open wound,

All this time I had tried to construct a tomb,

To bury it deep, hide it and bid it farewell,

But it had merely laughed and said, it won't go till I dare to accept it.

All those suffering, misery and grief are now gone,

Too late, I realise, I had let it throng,

My heart; when all this while I held it back,

I could have let it go and control its track.

Now as I look back, I realise,

It is better to experience that pain with a few cries.

Carrying it along and trying to hide it,

Won't ever work, it is better to find it and cure it.

It proved itself to be an important trespasser,

Without meeting it, I would never have been able to gather,

The importance of love, happiness and care,

That I realised, I had appreciated so very rare.

Truly is it said - Roses would lose their beauty without thorns.

And similarly, man would have long abandoned to appreciate love, had this pain not taught him the importance to do so,

So Mr. Pain, you're unwelcome now and if you do come to and fro,

This time I shall be ready with an arrow,

Of love and care, that I'll know how to throw.
