From the trees Maurice tensed and looked at his comrades after hearing Caesar's alarm call Rocket had taken control and gathered all who were able to fight they had responded in full force but left the wounded vulnerable in the middle of the small clearing they could clearly see their revered leader being held at gun point by armed humans a human woman lay dead on the ground at Caesar's feet her red hair covered her face "what do humans armed" Rocket signed Maurice shrugged and went back to observing something felt intensional but he wasn't sure what just yet "now what" Garrison hissed under his breath "give me your radio I need to make sure they can hear me" Mark ordered sweat forming on his face
Caesar put on a fake scowl as he held Marks eyes as he addressed the ground units "all units initiate tight formation around myself and garrison but for the love of god keep your weapons pointed at the floor until I say otherwise we are vastly outnumbered here" Caesar watched as the humans followed Marks order to the letter and was plainly amused to see looks of uncertain fear on their faces calmly Mark handed Garrison the radio and switched to signing "get Erica out of here she has a radio on her belt things are escalating at the compound If I'm going to bring them down from the inside I need your help"
Caesar nodded dutifully and let lose a sharp bark and waved over his second and a few others Rocket came immediately along with Cornelia and a Gorilla named Luca "take her out of here" he signed Rocket nodded and dutifully scooped the woman up before draping her over Lucas back Koba looked as though he was going to argue but Caesar held his hand up and glared menacingly at him Caesar bowed his head as Luca and Rocket hurried away Koba and Cornelia stayed at his side as a watching mercenary piped up noticing Erica's apparent abduction "hey stop where you are bring that woman back" he shouted firing a warning shot that just missed Erica's head Mark and Koba looked at the man angrily
"Hey hold your fire until told otherwise that's an order" Garrison shouted "kill him" Mark whispered looking directly at Koba as he spoke hesitant to defy Caesar's previous orders he looked to Caesar for permission Caesar granted it without a second thought and watched as Koba battered him to a pulp before snapping the mans neck "Garrison the radio" Mark demanded putting on a facade of anger as Koba rejoined Caesar's side and stared Garrison dead in the eye Mark snatched the radio as Maurice swung down from the trees accompanied by a handful of others
"now everyone knows what happens when you open fire keep your guns on the ground and wait for air support" Mark snapped a series of YES SIR'S followed Marks command as he switched channels so he was now talkings to Fredricks "Garrison to Fredricks do you read" Mark bluffed "on my signal chase them out" Mark signed Caesar nodded and raised a hand commanding silence from the apes around them behind him Koba handed him a wooden harpoon with a shard of glass tied to the tip with a string of vines "go for Fredricks" the radio replied "requesting immediate air support sir" Mark said backing away as Caesar made to thrust the spear into his Crown Jewels
"Denined air supports been recalled to the city you'll have to manage without get the apes and get out of there" Mark and Garrison smiled their luck kept getting better and better hiding their delight Mark winked at Caesar and turned on the radio "LEAVE" Caesar bellowed provoking exclaims of terror from the crowd as they instinctively started backing away tripping over each other as they did "sir without air support this is a suicide mission we are outnumbered I repeat we are out numbered" Mark said putting on a panicked tone as Caesar drew in a breath and bellowed again at the top of his lungs
"Mark please tell me there is a method to this madness cause we are a heartbeat away from this becoming a failed suicide mission" Mark held out his hand ordering the mercenaries to hold their ground he was waiting for the definitive answer that the air support was not coming "you have your orders" Fredricks replied coldly before static echoed through numours headsets "fuck this I ain't dying for GreyStoke retreat" a lone voice from the centre of the crowd exclaimed Mark nodded subtly and Caesar gave the order to charge in an instant apes were dropping from the trees and bullets were going off in all directions "Garrison hit the deck" Mark exclaimed dropping to the floor as though they were doing a push up the two men listened as the rest of their unit ran for their lives as the apes persued
When the noise died down Mark looked up and smiled "what was the point of that if I may ask" Caesar signed with a grin Mark chuckled and shook his hand "we just evened the odds a few more attacks like that and we should put them on their heels" Mark announced delight appeared on the faces of everyone but Garrison who was looking at Mark in shock "Travis to Fredricks unit respond immediately" their radio demanded Garrison and Mark looked at each other determinedly "go for Garrison sir" Garrison replied without missing a beat "get your asses back to base Mr Phillips choppers arrived shits gone to hell in the city and we have orders to obliterate" Travis announced Mark and Caesar's eyes widened that sounded like very bad news
"Sir what exactly are we Obliterating if I might ask" Mark asked urgently "that's need to know basis get your asses back to base that's an order" Caesar shook his head and looked at his comrades who looked just as uneasy as the humans did they had evened the odds but at what cost "yes sir returning now" Garrison said fixing the radio to his belt "Erica has a team radio when you get to your main camp tell her to switch to channel nine and then go to ground we'll contact you when we know more" Mark said solemnly
Caesar grimaced and nodded his head to the two humans who were putting their lives on the line to help his group "take care Friends" Caesar said aloud Garrison made a face like he'd shit himself he clearly didn't like it when Caesar spoke out loud Mark held his sons green eyes as they hurried back to the truck passing by dead bodies and scattered ammunition waving his troop away Caesar turned his back and hurried off to find the human woman Rocket and Luca had taken to safety when they returned Caesar was met by the woman a hopeful expression on her face behind her was Luca who was doing his best to sheild Rocket who was lying on the ground
"Did it work is Anvil gone we heard gunshots is everyone alright" she asked Caesar nodded and was going to sign when he realised she probably wouldn't understand him "we evened the odds for now they'll be back though and by the sounds of it soon" unlike Garrison the woman seemed accustomed to Caesar's unnatural sounding voice she nodded but noticed none of them were paying attention to her instead they had turned their attention to Rocket who was lying on the foliage clearly in pain an improvised bandage was secured on the calf of his right leg
"what happened" Caesar asked as he Maurice and Cornelia came to their side "a bullet sliced through his leg I managed to control the bleeding" Erica explained timidly Caesar frowned and took a closer look at Rockets injury "is he going to be alright" Cornelia signed Erica shrugged guessing at the apes question "he'll live it looks like the bullet cut through muscle he should be fine in two weeks if he rests it" Erica explained Rocket grinned and propped himself on his elbows "good news" Rocket asked changing the subject Caesar frowned and looked at the ground "some good some bad we need to get moving Erica take out your radio switch to channel nine and find out if Mark and that other man are back at the compound yet" Caesar signed
