(Y/n) was wide awake before the sun even had a chance to peek over the horizon, her excitement for the new job introduction bubbling over. In a burst of early-morning energy, she decided to prepare an elaborate lunch for herself and Levi: sandwiches slathered with hazelnut spread and marshmallow cream, a side of potato chips with a dollop of dip, Oreo cookies complete with a tiny spoon for cream-scraping, and a yogurt cup to round it off.
Yes, the quintessential college student feast, right?
Levi stumbled out of the bedroom, his hair damp and neatly slicked back, a towel draped casually around his neck, his clothes slightly askew. He yawned, rubbing the remnants of sleep from his eyes. "Why are you up so early? I thought I overslept..."
"Sorry, I just couldn't wait to start the day!" (Y/n) chirped, her voice brimming with excitement.
"Oh, yeah... your modeling gig. Yay..." Levi muttered, his enthusiasm failing to mask his sarcasm.
(Y/n)'s face fell slightly. "Can't you pretend to be a bit more supportive?"
Levi responded with an exaggeratedly cheerful expression, hands clapped together. "Oh, I can't wait to see you strut around in questionable fashion for the world to admire," he said, his voice dripping with feigned delight before his face settled back into its usual stoic mask. "Was that better?"
Looking down at her hands, (Y/n)'s shoulders slumped a little. "Levi... this job means a lot to me. It's better than nothing..."
Realizing his insensitivity, Levi's expression softened. "You're right. I'm sorry. I've been an ass. I promise to be better," he conceded, sincerity threading through his words.
"Really?" she asked, hope flickering in her eyes.
"Yes, really," he affirmed, starting to dry his hair with the towel.
Brightening, she gestured towards the kitchen. "And I made us lunch!"
Levi approached the counter as if it were a bomb about to go off. Peering at the sandwiches, he quipped, "Aw, you shit in my sandwich. You shouldn't have."
"It's hazelnut spread! It's good!" (Y/n) protested, her tone a mix of defense and pride.
Levi snorted. "Maybe for the first few bites. But no salad tomorrow can save you from the sugar crash that's coming. Wouldn't want to wake up to CPR in an ambulance, would we?"
(Y/n) rolled her eyes. "Aren't we being a bit dramatic?"
"It happened to a family friend," Levi replied deadpan, resuming his hair brushing.
Shaking her head, (Y/n) sealed their lunch containers. "I'm just going to use the bathroom before we leave," she said, disappearing into the adjoining room.
Seizing the moment, Levi quickly swapped out the sugary concoction for his backup lunch—a more sensible sandwich with turkey and Swiss, kettle chips, trail mix, and a vanilla yogurt. He stashed the original lunch behind various items in the fridge, then stood in the living room, hands in pockets, the picture of innocence as (Y/n) returned.
"Ready to head out, love?" (Y/n) asked, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
"As ready as I'll ever be," Levi responded, mirroring her actions.
"Oh, also, can you meet me outside my class later? We can head straight to my job introduction from there," she suggested, her hand resting on the doorknob.
"Yeah, you can count on it," he replied, pulling on a light jacket to fend off the classroom's notoriously frigid air conditioning.
"Can I really?" She paused, her tone hinting at her doubt.
