"Shouldn't I kill you already, Kim Seungmin."
"I-" Seungmin couldn't continue, truthfully he didn't knew what to say.
His heart was beating so fast that it felt like it would jump out of his throat. Everything inside of him screamed that this is danger but there wasn't anything he could do about it.
It wasnt your fault. It was mine, for believing every word you said. Jaeun mumbled, looking away. "Let's figure this shit out when we are out of here, Seungmin. "
Seungmin flinched at how much hatred he could feel in the way she uttered his name. It was like their little friendship had vanished in that instant and all that left was just empty coldness.
Both of waited until every single light had been switched off before they moved a few boxes to the fence to climb out of.
Natures laws don't exist in desert. Its an orgy of wanton violence between its denizens, all of whom have been disfigured and crippled by their attempts to live there.
Look up and you will see a burning, sulfur-yellow sun, resentful of life and soaking the land with its spite. The night brings with it a cloak of despair-black.
In your final indignity, the stars appear, beautiful and scattered. Their shining brilliance is mockery-silver.
They seemed like a reminder to Jaeun that there is no hope, no succour to be found in this melting pot of insanity.
She is alone, abandoned and doomed. If she had to describe the haze of her heart , she would say that its a wobbly, shimmering mirror of her own death.
She felt betrayed by everyone. Felix still pushed her to come here despite knowing everything, Chan and Jeongin played along with him, Seungmin pretended to be so indifferent about her hatred.
"Jaeun listen-"
"Shut up please."
She muttered as they climbed the fence and ran towards the rocks where they told others to wait.
"You guys are back!" Hyunjin stood up first, relieved to see his brother and Jaeun back.
"Why did you guys lie to me?" Jaeun cried, her bloodshot eyes drilling holes into each of their bodies.
"What are you talking about?" Chan asked carefully.
"Don't play dumb for fucks sake!"
"Noona-"
"Jeongin, shut up."
"But-" That's when it hit Jeongin and the rest of them. She knows.
"I am sorry, Jaeun." Chan trailed off. "But none of us knew about anything and-"
"But you guys knew before coming here, right!?" Jaeun broke down. "Why did you bring me here? To kill me?"
"That's not the case!" Seungmin interrupted.
"I just want to leave, please!" Jaeun said as tears fell down her cheeks.
"If you leave now then it's over .I had now idea. I wasn't aware of what happened behind my back!"
Seungmin said, trying to not let the sinking feeling in his heart take over.
"I am sorry, after I left the palace I got to know everything, I found you then and I thought if I say the truth, you would leave me."
"I will leave you right now." Jaeun wiped her tears away. "I hate this, I hate you , I hate everyone."
"Jaeun.." Hyunjin mumbled quietly. He didn't want to let go of his new friend and he knew that what she had lost because of him and his family was irreplaceable. "We are sorry."
Jaeun didn't say anything.
"How did you..know?" Chan asked , looking down at his feet.
There was a long silence and they didn't thought that Jaeun would say anything.
"I...snucked in the main office and there are pictures of you guys with your family and there are names of people who were killed below each of your name. "
Chan gasped in horror.
That was an extremely cruel way to keep records.
"I always thought about how I would kill you when you come across me.." Jaeun looked at Seungmin. "But i- something doesn't allow me to kill you and it's burning my heart..why do you get to live and not my family!?"
"I am sorr-"
"Don't. Just don't say it!" Jaeun snapped. "Your sorry won't bring my family back."
"HOW IS IT MY FAULT THAT I WAS LIED TO ALL THESE YEARS!?"
Seungmin finally burst out , tears welling up in his eyes as he ran his hands through his hair in frustration.
"SO WAS MY FAMILY AT FAULT? WHY DID THEY HAVE TO DIE?!" Jaeun yelled back. "They just wanted to live normal lives.."
"WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO THEN!? JUST KILL MYSELF!?"
They both were like ice and fire, both going on with their full intensity, not willing to bend down infront of the other.
"IF I WANTED YOU DEAD I WOULD HAVE KILLED YOU WHEN WE WERE HIDING!" Jaeun's voice broke, she clutched her heart in pain.
"Jaeun.." Seungmin's expressions finally softened.
"I HATE YOU SO MUCH KIM SEUNGMIN!"
"I understand.." He looked down as Jaeun dropped to her knees, hugging them as she cried her eyes out.
To work with people who were the reason you have no one left felt like an unforgivable sin. To realise that you're falling in love with one of them seemed even greater of a crime.
"I don't want to go inside again.." She said in-between her sobs. "You guys can go ahead..once I get back, I don't want to see any of you ever again."
That not only broke Seungmin's heart, it broke them all. Jeongin and Chan had long been known her. Heck, Jeongin even considered her as an older sister. For Hyunjin, she was one of the few people who understood him.
"You don't have to continue with us." Chan carefully went over and caressed the crown of her head. "I am so sorry, Jaeun."
"Why is it that I always thought of you as a brother I can rely on and it had to be your identity that caused my sister to die?" Jaeun sobbed.
"Life is so unfair, isn't it?" Chan had started teared up too.
Jaeun nodded.
"I ended up finding a family in the people I was fated to hate. Funny, isn't it?""I can't bring them back but we will give them and everyone justice, will you trust us one last time, Jaeun?" Chan asked, holding her hands in his.
"Can I actually trust you?"
"You can. I promise we will not betray you." Chan assured her.
"Promise?" Jaeun looked up at him.
"Promise." Chan smiled through the tears.
