How To Lose Friends and Alienate People

      Lou was bad, he hadn't showered since Christopher died four nights ago. He still had his blood on this shirt and his jeans were becoming like a second skin on him. His eyes were bloodshot and there was literally throw up down the front of him. He hasn't slept, barely ate, and what he did eat he would just end up throwing up because of all the alcohol he was consuming.

   The bar hasn't been opened again since that dreadful night. The cops still had the area tapped off with crime scene tape. And the flowers, candles, and stuffed animals were still showing up. 
    The night of the stabbing, the cops kept everyone there including Ed, Zayn, and Niall. They refused to let them go until they got everyone's statements about what happened. They even put handcuffs on Zayn and put him in the back of one of the cars. Once they heard everyone's stories though they let Zayn out and offered to take the boys to the hospital. Hector told them to go and that he would deal with the cops and the wolves, and he would get the other managers to help close up the bar.
   All the way to the hospital they rode with the lights and sirens on. When they got there no one wanted to tell them at first what was going on but a few of the nurses and doctors recognized who they were from living in the neighborhood and took them back to Louis first. He was still passed out from shock as they all gathered around him. The nurse was explaining what was going on with Louis at the moment and it was best to let him wake up on his own. She then told them Liam is in surgery. The knife cut into an artery and also severed quite a few tendons. If he had any mobility of his arm again it would be a miracle. She told them that she couldn't tell them about Chris, but the doctor should be in shortly to talk to them. Niall and Ed sat with Louis. They tried to wipe off as much of the blood as they could from his face and arms. The nurse came back and took Zayn to another room to clean his knuckles and bandage them up. He was back and they were still waiting for the doctor.
   Three hours later someone came to get them and wanted them to go to another room to talk to the doctor, but they insisted on staying with Louis in case he woke up. So, the doctor came into the room with them.
     "Hi, I'm Dr. Flint. I did the surgery on a Mr. Liam Payn." May i ask who you all are and how you are related."
   Naill was the only one willing to speak. "I am Niall, this is Ed, that is Zayn, and this is Louis. We are brothers."
   Dr. Flint gave them a look of disbelief, but he didn't question it. "Your brother Louis here is in a deep sleep. He went into shock while they were enroute here. He may sleep the rest of the night, or he may wake up shortly. We never know in situations like this. His vitals are all normal now, but we have him on an IV drip just in case. Liam is out of surgery and should have the mobility of his arm again once he goes through major rehabilitation. We were able to stop the bleeding where the knife hit his brachial artery. Which is the largest artery serving the shoulder and arm. It travels down the upper arm and through the elbow before dividing into the radial and ulnar arteries below the elbow. In the shoulder, branches of the brachial artery provide oxygenated blood to the muscles and bones. The stab wounds in his chest were pretty deep but luckily, they missed all his major organs, and his lungs were unharmed. He should be awake in a little while but he is on heavy pain medication so he might not be all that coherent for a little bit."
   The doctor stopped and composed himself for what he was about to tell them next.
    "Christopher?" Ed asked even though he already pretty much knew the answer he was going to get, and the tears were already falling from his eyes.
    "Mr. Styles received significant damage to his lower half. The hunting knife punctured both of his kidneys and his stomach several times. Both his small and large intestines took most of the punctures. While they got him back twice in flight, sadly they lost him before he arrived here, to us. We tried to get him back a few times but there was just too much damage done and blood lost that we were not able to save him.
    Ed just stood there as more tears fell from his face. He heard Niall scream out as he fell to the floor with Zayn, hugging on to each other.
    Dr. Flint said his condolences and told them someone would be in to talk to them about the next steps they will need to be making. As he left, he turned and told them he will be back to get them when Liam wakes up.
   Zayn stopped him before he left though. "Would you be able to put him in here with Louis?" Zayn asked him.
    "I will see what i can do but that should not be a problem, or we can move Mr. Tomlinson in with Mr. Payne." He told them and left.
    "How are we going to tell Louis?" Niall asked, still sobbing from the floor.
    "He has had so much loss in his life. When the fuck is he going to get a break for Christ sakes." Zayn said to no one in particular.
   They all sat on the floor of Lou's room trying to let everything sink in and began to figure out how they were going to tell Louis. A little while later Liam was brought in and his bed was put next to Lou's. Still not awake from surgery yet they boys were just happy he was there with them.
   The cops came by to check on everyone. They wanted to question Louis and Liam but they still weren't awake. They had told them the guy who stabbed Christopher was really messed up but was going to recover from the beating Zayn gave him. The cops, knowing Zayn and the rest of the boys since they were born pretty much, and also from all they do with Heaven Sent, and knew they were each other's family, refused to bring Zayn in or charge him with anything.
   A few hours after they left, Liam woke up. He groaned and tried to move but Sofie, his nurse, told him not to. They all knew him there mostly from work but also the neighborhood it was after all a small town. Him and the boys were definitely getting the VIP treatment.
   Within that short amount of time the news was all over the town. Hector sent Niall a picture from the bar, where people were already leaving flowers for Chris. They also were being delivered to the hospital for Louis and Liam. It was beginning to be way too much, and Ed told the nurse to save the cards but to please take the balloons, stuffed animals, and flowers all to the children's ward for the kids there to enjoy everything.
    "Lou?" Liam tried to talk to him from his bed. "Louis, please wake up."
    "He's okay Liam. He just went into shock, and we are waiting for him to wake up." Zayn reassured him.
   Liam looked at him and shook his head as he started to cry. "He knows Zayn. He already knows. He watched them shock him over and over again. He couldn't handle it. Oh fuck how are we going to deal with this." Liam allowed them all to hug him, but forgot about his own injuries.
   They told Liam they already talked about it and had a semi plan. One thing they knew for sure was they were not going to let Louis be alone by himself for a while. They were already fearing what he might do or how he is going to react when he wakes up.
   Dr. Flint came back in and told Liam he had to talk to him in private about a few personal things. So, Ed, Zayn, and Naill told him they were going to go to the cafeteria and get something to drink and they would be back in a little while.
   After their talk Liam nodded off from the pain meds as Louis woke up. He took one look at his clothes and everything came flooding back to him. Not wanting to be there he ripped the IV out of his hand, walked over and looked at Liam sleeping for a minute, kissed the top of Liam's head, and ran to find a way to leave the hospital. Once he was outside he had to walk a little ways down the road so that the nurse at the front desk did not notice him. He then flagged down an uber driver who knew exactly who he was from the bar and gave him a free ride home.
   The boys came back and noticed that Louis' bed was empty. At first, they thought he was in the bathroom but then they checked, then they thought they took him for maybe x rays or tests or something but when the nurse came in to check on him and Liam, and she ran back out and the boys could hear some shouting and people began to rush around.
    "What the hell is going on?" Zayn asked but Ed and Niall were clueless.
   The nurse came back in and asked them if Louis went with them to the cafeteria. They all shook their heads no.
    "Where is Louis?" Niall asked her calmly.
    "We do not know." She told them and looked embarrassed by it. "We do have security checking cameras and all the floors looking for him though."
   Liam woke up from all the noise going on in the room and wanted to know what was up. He looked over to Lou's bed and asked where he was. "Did something happen to Louis? Did he do something stupid?" Liam was in a panic now, but Niall came over to relax him and tell him what was going on. Liam began to shake his head slowly. "Go check home." Everyone froze and looked at him. "You will find him at home."
    Niall called Hector and asked him if Louis came home. Hector said he hasn't seen him or any car yet But he was still at the bar with the cops and dealing with all the flowers and people coming by.
   Niall called for an Uber and left to check the house. He opened the fence and at first Toothless and Ludo let him walk a few steps into the yard as he started talking to them, he was able to get to the porch. He tried to open the door, but it was locked he banged on it a little bit but got no answer. He then went around to the back and tried to get in from the garage but Toothless sensed something wasn't right and began to growl at him as he walked towards the garage door. Ludo, noticing his brother's uneasiness went to stand next to him. Niall knew better than to mess with the kids especially when they were like that. So he told them he was leaving and slowly turned away and left. He made sure the back gate was secure so the kids couldn't get out and he walked around to the entrance of the bar where he found Hector, who immediately hugged him and asked how Liam was and if they found Louis yet.
    "Liam is awake and out of surgery. He is doing good but still in a lot of pain. Louis is home but the kids won't let me in the house to get to him."
   Niall stopped as he noticed the memorial that popped up in front of the bar. It was only a few hours ago that Hector sent him a picture of it but now it almost completely covered the front sidewalk of the bar. Niall took a picture and sent it to the boys. Then called them.
   Ed picked up first. "Do you see this? Guys this is beautiful."
    "Is Louis there?"
    "Yeah but Ludo and Toothless, i have never seen them like this. They seem to know something is going on and they are protecting Louis and the house."
    "Without putting them to sleep there is no way we can get in there. If we call the cops we all know they will shoot them." Zayn was telling the truth.
    "They will let me in, but i am stuck here." Liam said sadly but not knowing how to fix the situation.
    "Can you try and get him to at least come to the gate or answer the ring?" Ed asked him.
    "Hold on, I'll go and try." Naill told them and walked back around to the gate. He began pushing the ring. It was definitely driving the kids crazy, but he kept doing it any way.
   A crackle from the speaker then came but stopped, so Niall began to push the ring again.
   Louis' voice was low and full of hate when it came across the little speaker. "Go the fuck away or i will open the gate."
    "Louis. It's Niall. Louis, please come to the gate or put the wolves away so i can come to the house."
   The only response Niall got was a beer bottle thrown over the fence at him, smashing as it hit the concrete.
    "At least we know he is home and semi alert. He probably will drink till he passes it out." Ed said. To which they all agreed to.
    "Niall can you just keep checking on him please. Any kind of response is better than no response.

   Liam told Ed and Zayn it was okay if they went home and that he was okay there by himself. They told him they would be back throughout the day to come and check on him. Which he thanked them for.
   Over the next few days they would take turns bugging Louis and tried to get a response from him.
   Any time one of the boys would come over and ring the bell, Lou would throw beer bottles at them or whatever else he had close to him. The wolves still did not let anyone into the yard when they were out though. A few times they were able to open the gate and leave food and water for them because they did not know if Louis was remembering to feed them or not.
   They released Liam four days later and the first thing he did was try to get to Louis. He opened the gate and at first Toothless and Ludo both were barking and growling at him, but he went in anyway and locked the gate behind him.
    "Really guys? Me? You're growling at me?" Hearing his voice Ludo stayed by his brother's side but began to wag his tail. "How is your dad? I am here to make sure he is okay." Liam continued to talk to them as he walked like he always did to their enclosure. He knew the kids weren't stupid and if you acted funny they would sense it and attack you. Liam was scared but he was more worried about Louis.
   The wolves made it into the fenced in area before Liam did. They were in defense mode and Liam knew it as he closed the enclosure gate behind him. Standing in front of the door that lead to the garage the wolves were just daring him to try something, because they were ready to pounce on him.
    "I got something you might want. Something i know the both of you love. You especially Toothless. Toothless stopped growling and cocked his head a little at the sound of his name. But he started to growl again when he saw Liam go to pull something out of his pocket.
    "Who wants a bone? Look what i got guys!" Liam showed them the bones and right away Ludo turned back into a playful puppy as Liam threw the bone for him to the other side of the cage. "I have one for you too, Toothless. Do you want it or not?" Toothless seemed to think things over and slowly started to walk to Liam who was holding the bone out to him. "Let's play fetch. Ready? Go get it." Liam said and also threw it to the other side of the enclosure. Liam turned as fast as he could and ran for the garage door shutting it just in time before Toothless caught him.     He was going crazy trying to get through the door and get to Liam, but Liam had the door locked and was already going through Lou's back door to let Niall, Ed, and Zayn in through the front gate and door.
   There was trash and empty beer, and alcohol bottles everywhere. Niall found Louis passed out in the hallway on the second floor of his house. At first, they thought he was dead. He sure as hell smelled like it. And he completely looked like it.
   Niall was scared shitless as he walked up on him. He was scared to touch him afraid that he would find him not breathing. Liam luckily came up and his medic instincts kicked in and he immediately called Ed and Zayn in to help pick Lou up and take him to the shower as Niall ran in front of them to turn on the cold water. They put him into the shower, not even caring about clothes, and were holding Louis up under the water.
