(Peter's P.O.V.)
It was almost time to get the heart of the truest believer. We were still bringing in new Lost Boys every day, but none of them were the boy we were after.
A few days ago I sent my shadow out to the mainland to search for the boy. Ever since that curse took all the people out of the Enchanted Forest, we knew he was in the land without magic. So I had the shadow search all through the place where they were sent and told him don't come back until you have found him, but don't bring him. The plan is all very fragile.
"Pan!" I heard Felix say. "The shadow's back!"
Behind Felix was the shadow. I walked over to it.
"Well? What did you find?" I asked.
"He's there," it said. "The boy."
"Great," I said with a smile. "Will getting him here be difficult?"
"Getting him here won't be," it said. "Keeping him here will."
"Why is that?" I asked, my smile dropping.
"There's a girl there," it told me. "She's very protective of him. Almost like a mother."
"So?" I asked.
"If you count this girl, he has three mothers," it said. "His birth mother, the Savior, his adoptive mother, the Evil Queen, and this girl."
"Okay, so there are some hurdles to jump over, but if we can get the two threats out of the way, this almost-mother should be no problem, right?" I asked.
"Possibly," it said.
"What do you mean 'possibly?' " I asked, getting frustrated with the shadow.
"I can tell this girl has untapped potential. Plus, there's something very familiar about her," it said.
"I don't care," I said. "Nothing's going to stop me from getting the heart."
I turned and walked away, not realizing how wrong I was.
