She woke up with a jolt. Eyes fixed on the ceiling. She jumped out of bed, opened the curtains and stared at the mixed colours of the night. Today was a new day, a fresh start. Hu Tao could not have been more excited, though it may sound childish, to be with her new friend.
The sun had not yet risen in Liyue but Hu Tao was already up, creating the most devious and elaborate pranks for Xiao. Attempting to get and early start, she ran to the Wangshu Inn in no time making sure to ring everybody's doorbell on the way.
She opened the doors, climbed the stairs and continued walking on tip toe when a looming figure came from behind grabbing her hands.
Pushed against a wall, screaming for help, a lingering green light had caught here eye.
"Xi-"
She was abruptly cut off by a hand on her mouth. Quickly, he brought her out into the moonlight for a better view of the intruder.
He took of his mask only to see... Hu Tao?!
What was she doing at this time of day?
He quickly let go of her, who was still shaking...
"W-why aren't you asleep?" She questioned, her voice mildly trembling.
"Adepti don't sleep." He replied sternly
She nodded, attempting to take a step back. Aware of her fear, he spoke:
"I'm sorry."
She looked at him, her ruby eyes reflecting in the light. Xiao could feel his face lightly flush, he put his mask back on before Hu Tao could notice.
"Why are you here?" He demanded
The director stood there, blankly, trying to find a valid excuse without exposing herself.
"Uhhh... Just- y'a know looking at the stars..."
She turned around, her eyes filled with wonder and awe as she gazed at the starlight sky.
"Yes,... indeed, it truly is... quite extraordinary..."
They both got lost in their thoughts, calm as ever. Xiao's way of escaping reality had also become Hu Tao's.
She took a deep breath, inhaling the sweet aroma of spring, the freshness of the trees, the crisp leaves. Everything she wanted was here and maybe had been with her all along.
A small smile crept up her face and even in that brief moment of pure joy, it could have lasted a lifetime. Without realizing, Hu Tao's hand had intertwined with his....
