Eric starts the fight by throwing a slow punch at Tobias, but he snaps his arm across to block it, then tackles Eric down onto the ground.

He springs up from the ground and pulls back his arm, clenches his fist, and throws it forward with strong force, causing Tobias to stumble backwards. Blood begins to drip from his nose, but he doesn’t stop to wipe it away.

Tobias throws a quick punch – too quick for Eric to block – towards his stomach, resulting in a doubled-over Eric. He violently coughs a few times towards the floor, then stands back up straight ready to fight again.

Suddenly, he comes at Tobias, and causes him to fall to the ground. He sits on top of Tobias, not allowing him to get back up, and continuously throws punches towards his face. Many connect, and Tobias looks like he has no fight in him left – but that’s not true.

He grabs Eric’s arm, twists it backwards causing Eric to yelp in pain, and rolls over, causing Tobias to now be on top of Eric.

Tobias is much taller and muscular than Eric, so he has pretty much no chance of getting back up.

Tobias punches Eric’s facial features with so much force, he begins to cry out in pain.

“Stop!” Eric screams. “I surrender,” he mutters, coughing up blood onto the platform.

I look around at the rest of the room and realise that everyone was watching the fight. Not one person continued to train. Probably because this was going to be one of the most brutal brawls.

“Congratulations, Tobias Eaton from Abnegation, you have won the first fight of this year’s training.” Max shouts. He claps, and everyone else does the same.

Eric runs off in tears (probably to the toilet so nobody can see him) and Tobias walks towards me, many congratulating him on the way.

Everyone goes back to training and Max continues to gather initiates to fight each other.

Tobias comes and picks me up, hugging me. He lightly kisses me on various areas of my face.

“You believed in me, Ava. Thank you,” he whispers.

“No problem, hopefully Eric will leave us alone from now on,” I blurt out.

“He will, he won’t want to come near me again.”

We both laugh at that.

“Come on, let’s go back to our room for a little while and get you cleaned up,” I say, dragging him there.

I grab some clean tissues from the toilet, lightly run the tap over them, and make my way back to Tobias who is sitting on my bed waiting for me.

“Here we go.” I begin to wipe the blood from his nose gently.

“He really did punch you hard that time, didn’t he?” I say, laughing.

“Yeah, I returned the favour,” he jokes.

“There. All the blood is gone. You just need to wait for your bruises to heal.”

“Maybe if you kiss them, they’ll disappear quicker?” he says suggestively.

“Of course, Tobias,” I reply flirtatiously. I lightly kiss each bruise on his face, then make my way down to his mouth, going lower along his neck.

He gently grabs my face in his hands and kisses me one last time on the lips. “We should get back to training,” he admits.

“Yeah. I was thinking, did you want to explore the Pit with me for a while this evening? I forgot to ask you yesterday,” I ask.

“I would love to.”

We walk back to the training area hand in hand.
