Wind whistled through the town, rattling windows and bringing it's rage with a loud howl of prospects. It seemed to cry and yell declarations, whirling with rage as it forced its way through the streets and alleyways. The two boys who were huddled close in the home of the lamia's were beginning to worry that they wouldn't make it home before a blizzard would soon come.
They gathered themselves, the young royal guard trainee and the even younger prince waving goodbye to the three serpents who had begun to cuddle together for the sake of warmth along with the dogs and puppies they were housing. Error gave each of them a name ridden goodbye, holding his new friend close in his arms. Cross bowed his head to the three, thanking them for allowing them to visit before ushering his little brother and his new companion out the door.
The town seemed to become a ghost town in a matter of seconds, the only signs of life being the billowing smoke that escaped from the chimneys. Error couldn't help but smile at the idea of a nice and warm fire welcoming from their adventure. He assumed that their brother's would be back from their trapping and that their father would already have the staff preparing dinner- maybe he decided to prepare dinner himself tonight. He remembers something about Ccino and Swap stopping by, maybe even Fresh and Lust.
The feeling of the cold harsh wind rattling through his bones broke him of his daydream and he silently hoped that Webs was curled up by the fire as well. He jumped a bit as Cross placed a hand on his shoulder, smiling at him. Error felt a slow rush of confusion, looking at his older brother with a small smile.
"You seem to be feeling better, I take it you needed a break?" Cross asked quietly, almost hushed as if this were a dire secret for their tells only.
Error glanced to the ground, watching his footsteps appear in the snow. "I suppose you could say that, it's just been difficult you know? Dad says I'll make a great God, he tells me that I'm doing the best I can but I feel like I'm just... failing him."
Cross frowned at that, "We all have our struggles Ruru, what you're doing... it's not going to come easy."
"You know about it?" Error questioned, looking up to his older brother with a small frown, his hands moving to adjust Jasper in his hold. "Dad told you?"
"He told me," Cross answered, "he mentioned that this would all be a big toll on you and that we shouldn't be too rough on you." Cross noticed how Error's expression fell at his words and he quickly glanced off to the side, eyeing an approaching alley way. "Dad looks out for us, you know this. He understands that this is going to be hard for you, you always did have a unique perspective on life."
Error sighed and hugged Jasper a little closer to his chest, a twinge of a smile on his face as the calico rubbed against his cheek. "I've taken a life, an innocent one... it doesn't... it just doesn't feel right!"
Cross paused and frowned, he gripped Error's shoulder with the softest sigh he could muster. "I understand but peg this, how do you know they were innocent?"
Error's eyes flickered with surprise, "They... their code said they had no LV."
"Well do you remember what dad told us about humans? Some have the ability to change the past, RESET." Cross pointed out with a solemn expression. "You don't know what that human may have done before the reset."
Error frowned at that and looked back to the ground, his phalanges rubbing through the calico's coat, "But if they-" His words were cut off by his brother's sudden yelp and the sudden scramble from Jasper. The calico squirmed and clawed its way out of his hold, the old feline making a break for the wall surrounding the town and castle. Error was about to call out to Cross, turning his head to his brother only to find himself staring down an alleyway, dimly lit by the light of the cloud-covered sun and the shadows that seemed to cassum the little backcross.
