Y/N POV:
"Are you certain I have to go with you?" I looked over at my brother, Ray, the pout clear on my face. "You're the one that has the business with the Hiraani pack, not me. Why should I have to go? I really don't want to." I tried to put a cute pleading look on my face, but from the way he cocked an eyebrow at me, I knew it wasn't working. Unfortunately that pleading looked hadn't worked since I was about eight. After that, he was just tired of me as older brothers tended to be with annoying younger sisters.
Ray sighed, brushing his blond hair back from his face and I could see the frustration in his eyes, the same frustration that showed each time we had this conversation. "Look Y/N. First of all, I promised mom and dad that I would always protect you. Second of all, the Moonlight pack leader wants to meet you since you are mom and dad's only daughter. And third, and most important of all, I promised..."
I sighed in resignation. "Yes I know. You can't leave an unmated omega alone." Flopping down on the sofa, I laid my head back, closing my eyes in frustration. I was tired of hearing the same old excuses, the same old reasons, and the same old stupid shit.
Sitting down next to me, Ray wrapped an arm around my shoulders, trying to lend me his silent strength, his calm persona. "Calm down little sister. You act like being an omega is a terrible thing. It's... it's not as bad as you are making it out to be. I promise you that."
Rolling my eyes, I pushed his arm off of me and stood, pacing back and forth across the living room. "Yes it is. I hate being seen as weak, being seen as a lesser being simply because Selene decided this is who I needed to be, what I needed to be."
"Do not insult the moon goddess in that manner." Ray rarely used his alpha voice with me and only when he was really angry. Me insulting the moon goddess, Selene? That was enough to make him really angry.
Dropping my eyes to the ground, I felt the shame heat up my cheeks, knowing I had crossed a line. "Yes Ray. I apologize for insulting the moon goddess and questioning her choices. It was highly disrespectful of me and I will not repeat the same mistake."
Sighing, Ray moved to my side, tilting my chin up to meet his gaze. "It is alright, but please. Please understand that you are who you are because Selene wishes it to be so. Do not think life will be as bad as you believe it to be. Your life could be so much worse. Do not forget that."
Even though I didn't like it, I nodded my head. "Yes Ray."
"Now go get packed. We are leaving in the morning to meet with the Hiraani pack." Ray patted my shoulder gently then turned me towards my room.
"Yes Ray." Not knowing what else to say, I trudged out of the room, dragging my feet the entire way. Ever since I had presented as an omega three years ago, my brother Ray, and our pack leader, had been especially protective over me. When our parents died five years ago, Ray took over the Nephele pack, falling into the pack alpha position. It had been a trial taking over for our father, who had been one of the best pack leaders in history, but he had risen to the challenge and our pack was now stronger than ever, forming treaties with the packs on all of our borders.
Recently the pack leader from the Hiraani pack, a pack just over our southern borderlines, had contacted us about a border extension. They were looking to expand their land and wanted our southern farmland, land that was not being utilized at the moment, land that was currently sitting empty. We had plenty of farmland on the east side, land that was rich with fertile soil and this was the land we used. Ray knew that the land redistribution would be helpful to the Hiraani pack, along with helping to solidify the treaty that was currently in place, one that he had worked hard to establish with the current pack leader, Kim Namjoon.
