Chapter 5

Hoseok POV:

As I looked down at my unconscious mate in my arms, I couldn't help but panic as I lowered her to the ground, cradling her against me, wanting to protect the sweet omega in my arms. Her eyes were closed and she was lying so still that for a moment, I imagined the worst. "What... what the hell is going on? What the fuck just happened?" Charon rushed to her side, crouching beside her, and I wanted to tug her away from him, but I could see by the concern in his eyes that he wanted to help her, that he truly loved and cared about her.

"Rina? Baby?" His eyes were gentle as he brushed the hair from her face, his fingers soothing as he touched her cheeks, patting them tenderly. "Please Rina. Come back to me. Baby wake..." His words trailed off and I could see the shattered look in his eyes as he focused on something on her neck. "H-her m-mark... it's..."

Looking down at her neck, I could see what had him so surprised. The mate bite that had been previously on her neck was gone, disappeared as though it had never existed. This was something I had never seen before. The mark had been so obvious just minutes ago, but now her neck was completely free of any type of mark, any at all. I looked up towards Atlas to see a look of concern on his face and I knew instantly that he knew what was going on, that there was something happening here that was unknown to all of us except him. "What... what is going on here? Why did her mark disappear?" I felt terrible knowing it was gone, feeling a sense of pity for the hurting man next to me, but at the same time, there was a sense of relief that I couldn't control, one that I couldn't let go of.

Atlas sighed and knelt down next to Charon, placing a comforting hand on the other man's shoulder. "When her mate touched her, her body recognized him and rejected your bond. I'm... I'm so sorry Charon, but the Moon Goddess has made her decision."

Dropping to his knees, Charon buried his face in his hands and let out a heartbreaking wail that made my heart clench in pain. It was a sound I never heard anyone make and a sound I never wanted to hear again. "W-why? Why? Why h-has the M-Moon God-Goddess de-decided to p-punish m-me in this way? What d-did... what d-did I d-do?" His words came out in unintelligible sobs and part of me wanted to run, leaving her here with him, let him have the woman in my arms, but a stronger part of me forced me to stay, holding my mate, knowing that this was the way it was supposed to be. "Please Selene. T-take away my... my ability to shift, anything. Please don't take her away from me!"

Seren wrapped the sobbing man in her arms and I had to turn away from the sight, knowing I was the reason he was feeling this pain, feeling this heartbreak. "Charon? Sweetheart, I know this hurts, but... but this is the way it's supposed to be. Sefarina? She has... has mates."

"Mates who didn't fucking want her!" Charon shoved the Luna aside and I could hear the snarl from Atlas at the harsh treatment of his mate, but Seren brushed it off, understanding the pain the other wolf was going through. "I want her! I love her! She's mine!" Charon's hands were in his hair, tugging the blond strands in obvious frustration. "Why is this happening to me? To us? Haven't I been through enough pain?" Shaking his head, Charon continued to tug at his hair. "No! This can't be right! She's mine! Mine! I'm not letting them have her!"

Nodding towards Yoongi, I gestured for him to take the woman in my arms. Standing up, I approached Charon. "Look. I get that you don't like this situation, but she is our mate. She is ours whether you want to accept it or not. The Moon Goddess has decided it to be this way. Yes. We... we rejected her two years ago, but it... it was a mistake."

Charon whirled on me, his eyes burning with rage and hatred so deep I couldn't help but flinch at the look on his face. "You rejected her! You! She ended up here, injured with no memories, no one to protect her. Alone! And I took care of her. I'm the one who healed her, the one who loved her. Now you decided two fucking years later that you want her so you think you can just come and take her away?"
