Chapter 3

Hoseok POV:

Two years later...

"Come on Yoongi baby. Just a little bit further." I turned to my mate, who I could clearly see was tired. Once every year, we would shift into our wolf forms and take them on a hunt. It was something that satisfied those baser instincts that called out to us. Although I loved this part, my mate, who was perfect in every other way, who was a little bit lazier than me, hated it. He would rather stay at home, enjoying the modern comforts we had grown used to, the ones we had fought so hard to earn over the years.

Sighing Yoongi forced himself to his feet and shifted back into his wolf form, a sleek golden blond wolf that was a stark contrast to my own coffee colored one. This year, along with Jimin and Taehyung, we had decided to go through the Deidamia Forest on the eastern edge of our lands. Although most people tended to stay away from it, as Alphas, Taehyung and I weren't afraid of it and we both knew we could protect our weaker mates. I shifted back into my own wolf and gave him a subtle nudge with my snout to keep moving. We were almost at the edge of the Deidamia Forest, the eastern border that bumped up to the Makani pack's land.

Although we didn't have a solid relationship like we did with the Nephele pack, we didn't have any negativity with them either. We just existed peacefully on either side of the forest. As we ran through the forest, I let my mind wander, something that I didn't usually allow, something I tried to avoid because it made me think of an incident that happened two years ago, one that I didn't want to admit I felt guilty about, felt ashamed about.

Two years ago, Ray, the Lead Alpha of the Nephele Pack, visited our pack, agreeing to sign over empty farmland on their southern borders, something we so desperately needed. Not wanting to leave her alone, since she was an unmated omega, Ray brought along his younger sister, Y/N. The moment she entered the building with Ray, I knew instantly that she was mine and Yoongi's mate, the missing piece to our unfinished puzzle. Stunned by the presence of the omega, I made it perfectly clear to her that neither Yoongi nor me were interested in the bond with her, something I promptly regretted her when I saw the hurt in my little omega's eyes. I had vowed to make things right with her, but when Yoongi and I went to the room she had been assigned, she was gone, leaving behind all of her belongings and a note addressed to her brother. It simply said that she was sorry and she loved him. Nothing else. No indication of where she had gone, where she might be.

Not wanting Ray to know the reason his sister disappeared like that, Yoongi and I kept our mouths shut, only revealing the information to Namjoon and the rest of the council when Ray returned to his pack. Disgusted by our behavior, Namjoon threatened to remove both Yoongi and me from the pack, but showed mercy when Adirha, along with the rest of the council, begged him to reconsider. Namjoon had been short with us ever since and I knew it was something we deserved. By rejecting our mate in the way we did, we essentially insulted the Moon Goddess in the worst way possible and I was lucky that she hadn't decided on a worse punishment for us. I guess losing your mate was punishment enough.

I was so caught up in my thoughts that I almost missed the yelp of pain and when I turned around, I saw Jimin limping, his front paw held in the air. Taehyung immediately shifted and knelt down next to his hurt mate. "Shit. Jimin baby? Are you alright?"

Jimin whimpered in response and when I joined Taehyung, I could see the large piece of splintered wood wedged in the pads of Jimin's large paw. Immediately shifting, I knelt down next to Taehyung. "Fuck. That shit looks like it hurts." Jimin let out another whimper and I could see the pain in his eyes. "He can't shift back until we get that out. Can you do it here?"

Taehyung shook his head. "No. If I pull it out with nothing to staunch the bleeding, he would bleed too much, become too weak. I wouldn't be able to carry him back." Taehyung's eyes filled with worry and I could see he was close to tears. "We're... we're not too far from the Makani Pack line. Maybe their pack doctor will have mercy on him and help him?"
