Dream's POV
I was shook awake by my mother.
"Dream. Dream." She repeatedly whispered.
"What? What?" I finally whispered back.
"They're after me, we need to go." She whispered then tried to pull me out of bed."Wait. Woah." She stopped ", who's after us?" I asked groggily.
"Techno" she said and I laughed.
"Good night mom." I said. My mom grabbed a handful of my hair. I winced in pain.
"Get up." She stated."Okay okay, let me get some pants on." I said.
"No time, let's go." She said and dragged me out of bed by my hair.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"It's one." My mom said.
"Can you let go." I said and smacked her hand away. She held her wrist.
"Ow." She said. And glared at me.
"Grab some of these." My mom said and grabbed a pot of flowers. They look very expensive and very fragile.
"Wait no mom!" I whisper yelled.I looked into her eyes, they were enormous. She had laser focus. There's no doubt, she's high as a kite. I know one sure way to help.
"The monopoly man will know we were here now." I said instinctively.
"Shit, you're right." She said and put the flowers back."But now what will the offering for the fae be?" She asked.
"What do these ones like again?" I asked.
"Flowers, animals, humans, stop me." She said and pointed at me.
I pushed her hand away and thought."Well beggars can't be choosers, right?" I asked. My mom nodded.
"Give them some of your hair." I said and rolled my eyes. This was so stupid.
"I already used mine, they have mine. Dream." She said, she looked frightened."Let's get you back to bed and I'll give them some of my hair." I said.
"They have your hair." She said. I rolled my eyes and picked her up.
"Let's go find an offering that isn't hair then." I said. She felt frail. I don't know the last time she ate anything. Just get her to bed."I can't go back to the smurf shack the cat wants to eat me." My mom said.
"Don't worry I have a good dog, isn't that right boy." I fake barked behind us. My mom nodded."When did you get a chihuahua?" She asked.
"When you left me in a ditch and moved to a bar." I muttered under my breath. As much as I hated it, I admit there are a few things about caring for my mom that I missed. I got to play make believe whenever I wanted and she would play along. She let me raise myself, no, she made me."Here we are." I said and barked a couple times. I tucked her in tight she smiled at me.
"I know I'm a failure." My mom said. I wasn't ready for that.
"Well, the first step is admitting it." I said and left. I stood in the doorway."I believe you could get better." I said to my mom. She was already passed out. I sighed and walked away. I remembered that I was naked. I should probably put something on. I went back to my mom's room and opened her drawers. She had no clothes in them, but she had a big bag of cocaine that I took away from her.
I looked under the bed and surely enough, all her important shit was on the floor. I grabbed a pair of pants and put them on. I realized it was a skirt, but really didn't care at this point.
I started walking back to my room and walked past the living room. I looked at the couch and saw George. He smiled at me then his smile turned into confusion. I realized I'm holding a bag of coke in nothing but a skirt. I waved.
"Dream?" He asked gently. He sounded terrified."I can explain." I said. George shook his head.
"You better." George said and pushed Bad off his lap. He grabbed the bag from me.
"What is this? Cocaine?" George asked.
"Yes." I said and George dropped it."You better say just kidding. This better be some kind of joke." George said. I put my hands on his shoulders.
"Hey. Hey. Look at me. It isn't mine. I'm flushing it." I said.
"Okay. Okay." George said and took a couple breaths.I picked up the coke and held George's hand.
"I'll take questions starting now." I said. George looked at me.
"Really? I have to ask?" George asked. I sighed.
"My mom ran into me tonight." I said.George's pity look came out and I didn't want it. We stayed silent for a bit.
"What did she do?" He asked. We sat down in our bedroom.
"She dragged me out of bed, she was clearly drugged up. I had to get her back to bed without her destroying the place." I said."Why the skirt?" George asked.
"She didn't let me put on clothes so I was naked until I got her down. Then I stole a skirt from her." I said.
"Why didn't you call security?" George asked.
"Because I didn't think about it." I said."And because I kinda missed caring for my mom." I said. George shook his head.
"You don't. You think you miss it but trust me, she's a mess that can't be cleaned." George said.
"Doesn't mean it's not fun to clean a bit for no reason." I said."How did she get you out of bed?" George asked.
"She dragged me by my hair. Then she tried to steal some flowers from the hall for the fae. Then I told her the monopoly man would be mad at her so she put them back." I said. George smiled.
"Sounds like you had fun." George said."Well, it's fun when I can decide to physically carry her to her room. When I was a kid I'd just have to hope she passes out somewhere legal." I said.
"She has her ups and downs." George said and cuddled up to me."Do you think less of me because I care about these people?" I asked George. He shook his head.
"I couldn't be prouder. You are the glue holding them together Dream." George said.
"Yeah. But what happens once I dry out?" I asked and George didn't answer I looked to see he was asleep. I sighed.
